One of the interesting things I think about the way Jesus instructed us to spread the news about him is to tell people once, and if they do not accept what you have to say, move on. (Luke 9:5)

So how do you think this applies in life? How does it apply online? Also - the part about shaking the dust off of your feet - what does that mean to you? Is it basically equivalent to saying "I wipe my hands of you"?

I like it. It essentially says that you did what you were there to do. They gave you an answer and denied the Spirit. I look at it more of a defensive play, as it prevents us from becoming entangled in snares (like debates and endless questionings with no point); which is not designed to hear the Word, merely prevent it from being spread to other areas.
Sound advice.

Shaking the dust off your feet means moving on, having nothing more to do with that person.

which potential in case you're witnessing to a pair one and that they don't decide to settle for what you're saying, then you wipe the dirt off of your ft potential (bypass directly to the subsequent difficulty and don't waste any further time). in the event that they have not got faith, press on.

I wish more Christians would follow that, to be honest. That way I wouldn't have to tell someone "Since this has changed from a discussion about religion to a 'this is why my beliefs are right and why you should follow them' exchange, I will not be replying to any more of your emails". And it would also mean that even AFTER sending that email, the Christian would not continue to send replies.

IN THE case of Luke it would seem to have the significance that whatever judgements there are to be given if any, are in God's hands:

Commentary:
*** it-1 p. 660 Dust ***

Jesus Christ instructed his disciples that when anyone failed to receive them or listen to their words, they were to shake or wipe the dust off their feet upon leaving that house or that city. This practice served “for a witness against them,” implying that Jesus’ followers were peacefully departing and leaving that house or that city to the consequences that would come from God.—Mt 10:11-15; Lu 9:5; 10:10-12; Ac 13:50, 51.

CROSS-REF.(Acts 13:50-52) “. . .But the Jews stirred up the reputable women who worshiped [God] and the principal men of the city, and they raised up a persecution against Paul and Bar′na·bas and threw them outside their boundaries. 51 These shook the dust off their feet against them and went to I·co′ni·um. 52 And the disciples continued to be filled with joy and holy spirit. . .”

>>Well in Matthews account there is something more expressed as to ones peace:

(Matthew 10:11-13) “. . .“Into whatever city or village YOU enter, search out who in it is deserving, and stay there until YOU leave. 12 When YOU are entering into the house, greet the household; 13 and if the house is deserving, let the peace YOU wish it come upon it; but if it is not deserving, let the peace from YOU return upon YOU. . .”

--SO THEN in my understanding as our message should be of peace of a present nature in our preaching should always be dominating, and if indeed one gets a positive response, the peace we intended for the household could benefit , but if not we need to know when to take our leave , so we would not leave in a huff!
>>>So we would not be going with a threat of Armageddon as the main thrust of our message, even though we may strongly believe that!
>>>>Or if one believes in hellfire , use that to supposedly shake up a persons thoughts, as a motivator to become a church christian!
(not that we should be affraid of speaking upfront & honest)
>>FOR instance if people feel that men are going to bring true peace, to the earth AND we believe what the Bible promises as to the Kingdom, that we pray for in the Lord's Prayer as the ultimate hope for mankind".....thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven...." we have to decide how we would answer that and still be peacable, if possible, as this text says:

(Romans 12:18) “. . .If possible, as far as it depends upon YOU, be peaceable with all men. . .”

AS FAR AS online in these pages , one would try to present things as kindly as possible , but we all fail at times!

(Colossians 4:6) “6 Let YOUR utterance be always with graciousness, seasoned with salt, so as to know how YOU ought to give an answer to each one.”

>>We would not, because no one knows our true identity, get our licks in so to speak, when people reject us or are crude in some of their references to us individuals , persuasians, and religions!

What it means to me is that I do not have to have the last word, which could disrupt my peace and others if I insisted on it!

Yes it is, there are too many lost souls to concentrate on the ones who refuse to listen to the word of GOD.

I agree with Mike. I'm a "hit and run" type of Christian myself. We need to redeem the time.
