Oh, for heaven's sake. It's this type of cr*p that makes HR departments ban birthday parties across the board!
1. It's HIS birthday. Order a veggie pizza. He can't eat the 3-meat pizza that you get on your birthday, but you CAN eat a veggie pizza (which are actually pretty tasty.) If anyone is offended by a veggie pizza, then they don't have to partake. If ordering a veggie pizza creates chaos, I'd hate to think of what would happen in your office if something really IMPORTANT went wrong!
2. As far as him wanting an entire pizza to himself, that depends on prior parties. Does the birthday person usually get their own pizza? If not, tell him he has to share.
Grow up, folks.

I am a vegetarian and while I have never asked my company to accommadate me in any special way in that regard, I must admit it's hurtful when they don't consider it when ordering for the whole office. (When certain people order it's all meat based choices, but others order a variety. Including plain cheese, and/or vegetarian. It's hit or miss)
Believe it or not, even though I am the only vegetarian on staff, there have been plenty of times they have ordered with me in mind, but by the time I get there, the cheese or veggie has been eaten by the non vegetarian's while there is plenty of meat pizza left. Sometimes meat-eaters prefer it too.
We have a large office and several pizza's are ordered, and I don't know the size of yours, but feel the best solution is to order both, at least 1/2 veggie 1/2 whatever. While I hardly understand why it would/should cause chao's, There is no way he should expect a whole pizza to himself though!
I would expect when it's the vegetarian's birthday, the same would hold true and all would be considered.

Oh Healthy.. this happens ALL the time in my office. We order both whole vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas. Just ask the person a simple question, "What topping would you like?"
I have been to Italy many times, and I have had wonderful olive pizzas, artichoke pizzas, the list goes on ad infinitum.
The true first pizza made in Italy was vegetarian. It was the Pizza Margarita, which is made with basil, tomato and cheese, cooked over a wood fire. The red, white and green represented the colors of Italy, named after Princess Margarita. Everyone I know likes this pizza. Just order it...
you will find that if it is a good pizzeria, everyone will like all the options.
Enjoy it all...

I am not a vegetarian, but I do sometimes enjoy plain cheese or veggie pizza. Make it a habit to always order one meatless pizza. I bet not just the vegetarian will eat it, plus, some religions don't eat meat on certain days, so it is always nice to have a meatless alternative...the lone vegetarian in your office does not need his own special pizza.

1) The cheese on the pizza probably isn't vegetarian anyways.
2) I'm a vegetarian but even when I wasn't i did sometimes eat a meal without meat in it (god forbid)
3)instead of pizza get food catered from a local sandwich shoppe/restaurant that will have a vegetarian option
4)Get a Birthday cake instead like everyone else in the world.

Is he the only person in the office who would eat the vegetarian pizza? I'm not a vegetarian, but I would eat vegetarian pizza if it was available. Just make a veggie pizza one of the pizzas that you would normally order.

How many people are there? Unless there are like only 4 people or something, then I don't see what the big deal is about getting a tiny 10" pie with a couple veggie items on it as one among the two or more pies you'll be getting. Is your office really so precariously organized that ordering a personal pie with peppers is going to "create chaos"? Get a grip man, it's just pizza.

The correct procedure for the HR to have done is to have found how many herbivores are in the office and how many omnivores in the office and how many carnivores in the office and depending on the number of omnivores and herbivores you get that many pizzas to suit everyone's tastes. Say there are 45 persons and 15 are omnivores and 20 are carnivores and 10 are herbivores herbivores and omnivores will out the carnivores so if you are getting 10 pizzas make sure at least two are vegetarian and the rest can cater to omnivores and carnivores.

Order the whole pie...it's only fair that his pizza be freshly prepared and not have the pizza that is either sitting around or made yesterday and heated up. Yuk....you will be surprised how many other people will try a slice of the veggie pizza.

Order him a 10 inch pizza, one for just him . People do that for me all the time. He does not want his vegetarian pizza slices next to non-vegetarian pizza slices.
