most word processing software has a symbol insert option. in microsoft word, it's insert, symbol, then you can scroll through several different menus....a lot of the programs also allow you to designate keyboard keys for that symbol

Jaclyn - i tried it and the number 4 popped up as soon as i let go of the alt button......

press the left alt key type 0176 on the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard (numbs lock engaged)for the Degrees......°

I must admit it took time and the numbers listed from someone else was 1076 .....it is 0176 with the right ALT pressed.
Thanks to the CharacterMap window....per the answer from someone else....notice in that window it shows the config of the needed keys pressed in the bottom toolbar.
Thanks to all the help.....Yahoo Answers is so helpful....

Hold down the "Alt" key while typing 1076, using the numbers on the keypad on the SIDE of your keyboard. This does not work with the numbers at the TOP of your keyboard, just the side.

Edit: Sticky Nicky, yes I tried it myself. Are you sure that you are holding down the Alt key while typing the numbers on the keypad located on the SIDE of your keyboard? (Not the row of numbers above the qwerty keys) After you type those numbers, let go of the Alt key, and the degree symbol should appear once you let go. (Also make sure that the Number Lock is set. Press the Num Lock button to make sure the light above it is on.)

Start button > Programms > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map > °

This has all characters not on the keyboard, you just copy and paste.

Jaclyn did you try that? I did and it didn't do anything- maybe I'm doing it wrong?

wow I figured it out! I was trying to use the other alt button- has to be the left one.

¿Qué Pasa? Wow so handy! Thanks!
