Its a very tough thing to go through, especially if you were in a religion that claimed to be the only way to salvation.
I think that disfellowship is in reality a reflection on the people doing the shunning vs. the person being disfellowshipped.
Being told you are a heretic is tough to hear, but telling someone they are a heretic shows a complete lack of empathy, love or forgiveness. People who feel the need to disfellowship others, display a weakness of faith and a weak version of God.
I am looking squarely at you JWs, Mormons, SDAs, Baptists, COGs and all the other Christian denominations that rely use disfellowship as a tool.
Its abhorrent behavior, that most people in rational life reject as barbaric.
Think about what would happen if someone was 'disfellowshipped' from their neighborhood. There would be moral outrage.
After a while though, you come to a place where it doesn't really matter anymore. Who cares if some people are morally corrupt and don't know it.
What counts is how you spend your life, not what others choose to spend theirs on.

Forgave the people who disowned me, forgive them for all the hurt they still keep trying to do to me for walking away after being told to get the f--k out, then felt immensely free and unburdened and bursting with the love of life i naturally feel when not under their negative influence, have a hell of a lot of fun living now, am able to think clearly and freely and make right decisions more easily, am more hopeful and optimistic about my future, have forgotten all the ills of the past, and am back to the beautiful, confident, strong and good self that i know i am and look forward to finally being able to build my own world, my way.

Stay prayerfull sometime it is needed because of who you chose to fellowship with but in other cases as a church body of Christ only God knows it well. Do not allow people as I have learned to get you bent out of shape because God is molding by his Spirit us to the image of Christ. We all should know he is the exspressed Image of His father the Almighty. I take it in prayer and just keep it moving because I must redeem the time lost on such things I've come against in the kingdom. Satan is doing his dark kingdom work, we just have to be mindful of ours. You stay incouraged and remember my prayers will not exclude you. May God bless you ...Ya prince in the kingdom Of God.(peace)
