I believe I've preached this message since I've found the forum. To say you are "Christian" and yet to not obey the commandments mean that at the end Yahshua will say to you I don't know you depart from me you who practice lawlessness. (without law literally)
A lot of my brothers and sisters lead "good" lives and and can do many works that they think will get them into the Kingdom of God but they can not feed enough hungry clothe enough naked heal enough sick to earn their way into the Kingdom. As long as they continually ignore direct commands from God because they do not fit their tradition or life style they are not within Gods will, nor will Yahshua acknowledge them as His before his Father.
Brothers and sisters in Messiah, repent! Please do not let the enemy be able to use this kind of scripture against you and thus give Yahshua a black eye. You will not escape judgement if you continue to believe that you get to pick and choose which commandments are valid and which are changed to fit your doctrine and which you can ignore all together.

I posed a question recently dealing with the importance of Hermeneutics which is the art and science of biblical interpretation. It is quite obvious that you have not followed those guidelines as the preceding scriptures set the context of the scriptures you have called into question. The context deals with false prophets or those that claim to be Christian who are really not. Therefore, when Jesus says in verses 22-23 to "depart from me you workers of iniquity, I never knew you" he is speaking to those false Christians. Please for the sake of everyone you come in contact with from now on, use the proper Biblical interpretation laws to avoid sounding idiotic.

Well I won't say that doing great works will get you into heaven, because I never claimed that in the first place. Nor do most Christians. The verses in question read thus:
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
And you can see plainly that their error was that they DID NOT KNOW the Lord. They had no relationship with Him. They were trusting in their works to save them, and were prideful of those works.
They had no relationship with CHRIST.

Amen sister. We are to comfortable, we should be shouting the truth of Jesus Christ from the rooftops. You only have to be here for a short time to see how many are in need of his grace and mercy. Mat 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly [is] plenteous, but the labourers [are] few; Mat 9:38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Conveniently you left out Matthew 7:21, which explains the entire thing.
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Good job! I love how non-believers seem to take things out of context, and think it is logical. For instance, you technically said:
"I...take the bible literally"
You do?

When you talk about a scripture, you must put them all together on any given subject to fully understand.
Doing good works does not provide a way for us to earn or buy acceptance from God or salvation. YEP YEP YEP.
No doubt about it, but in other places you read where God said that faith without works is dead and counts as nothing. THe gift of salvation is free. But holding on to it has conditions. If you do not love and obey God, you wont stay saved. and, God says we will do good works for Him because we love Him if we are TRULY born again, as we have the heart of God and the mind of Christ.
Great works earn you nothing, but doing nothing for God will makeyou lose that gift He has given to you. Because it is how we show that we do really love God and serve Him from love. How can anyone claim to love God and follow Jesus, and still be unwilling to give all they have to God to serve Him well???? IF we love even our mate, we will do things to please them, not ever to dishonor them, yet we arent earning their love. Its freely given.
Same with God and how much more so does this work?
God gives us so many things, and how can we be willing to give Him any less than what He gives to us. WE do it from love, not to earn our way to heaven. WE would do it even if heaven was never a possiblity to lose out on... because we do it because He loves us and we love Him.
God requires obedience, thru the shed blood of Jesus, and He gives us the Holy Spirit to be able to know how to do it and be empowered to do it. Instead of ppl saying and thinking how little must they do to get to heaven, they shoud all be saying what more can I do for you Lord....
Just something to ponder on. We serve from love.....

*looking into your dead eyes*
I take the words in the Bible as literally as I am supposed to without anything but divine influence...but you're right...good works only get you a pat on the back from others...not a pass through the gates of heaven...

The Holy Spirit has to interpret the meaning to you. But good works are as filthy rags to GOD, And our righteousness has to exceed that of the Pharisees and Scribes in order to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. And there is only One way to do that, Through Faith in the LORD GOD JESUS CHRIST.
Faith without works is dead, what that means is what you are believing God for He will make it look as if it is anything but what you are believing for so you have to work at keeping your Faith. That is the works He is looking for, not goody two shoes acts.

Here are the scriptures you mentioned , so that everyone can read them:
Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Firstly, a REAL Christian does NOT believe that anyones works "gets them to heaven." So you have begun your question with an "Assumption" and NOT with facts. Heres what the Bible SAYS about works NOT saving anyone:
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Ephesians
2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
I will agree with you that there are many out there who "profess" to be christians who ARE telling others that their good deeds, such as "obeying the 10 Commandments, not smoking, cursing, or drinking or hangin out with anyone who does, no makeup, etc etc etc" are what makes them righteous. They are the ones who are mistaken and are into a "religion" (ie: manmade substitute for the REAL thing).
The Bible IS to be taken literally. However, we must follow Gods directives in 2 Tim 2:15 to be able to correctly understand what is being written and to whom specifically , before anyone will be able to understand what the Bible is really saying and TO WHOM it says it.
Gen thru Acts is God speaking to a NATION of Jews about Judaism. This is talking about the law of MOSES and is prophetic in nature.
Romans thru Philemon is God changing programs and dealing with the present church of today, called the church which is His BODY. The "body church" is NOT found in the portions of scripture addressed TO and ABOUT the Jewish Nation. It was HID IN GOD (Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:, and KEPT SECRET (Rom. 16:25) til revealed to Paul (Ephesians 3:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words). This is called "Christianity", or the gospel of the GRACE of God.
Hebrews thru Revelation is God again resuming His program with the Nation Israel and fulfilling His promises to them. Their program was SET ASIDE, or temporarily INTERUPTED
We are to realize that God has two programs : One for heaven and one for the earth (Gen. 1:1) and one having to do with a NATION (his earthly people, the Jews) and one having to do with a BODY (his heavenly people, we the Body of Christ.)
