I found a stray, halfway grown kitten on the street in October of 06. I took him in and made a house cat out of him. I've noticed things that he does that are really strange. For example, he follows me everywhere... room to room, always rubbing on me... STARING at me for long periods. That's probably pretty normal, but it gets stranger. When I take a shower, he comes in the bathroom with me and jumps up onto the side of the tub and peeks around the curtain and just stares. He's jumped in there while I was in the middle of a shower. He doesn't seem to be afraid of water.. just twitches his ears a little. Maybe he's just curious? The weirdest thing of all is this: He licks the inside of my flip flops. I've noticed him doing this on several occassions. He doesn't touch anyone else's things, only mine. Is there something on the shoe he is attracted to, or is it purely because they're my flip flops? I've never had a cat like this! Has anyone ever experienced anything similar?

Haha. No. He's solid orange with these huge yellow eyes. Kind of freaky sometimes, but he's cute.

Yes. Your cat sees you as her family.
My cats used to watch me take showers, too. They are just checking out what you are doing. He licks your flip flops because they have your scent and they like the salt from the sweat.
My cat tries to "groom" my face with licking and rubbing her face on mine.
This morning, she started pushing the covers over my head, like she was trying to cover my head.

Now that his environment is smaller, you're the most interesting thing around (especially if there's no other cats in the house)... plus you are his best friend.
Cats interested in life will follow you around and rub you. I'd worry more if he ignored you! Staring is a good thing, especially if they do it with sweet sleepy half-closed eyes- it means they trust you. Try doing it back, going from open to half-closed eyes slowly- most cats will appreciate that as affection from you.
Your cat lived in the great outdoors for months, so probably has some tolerance for water. I had a cat like yours who used to love sitting on the tub's edge (between the inner and outer shower curtains) while I showered... and when I finished, if I bent down, he would give me a scalp massage and chew on my hair a bit. I think it's just curiousity like you said, like, "Hey, what are you doing in there?"
Almost every cat I've known has had an affinity for shoes and feet- I guess that's the part of us they see (and probably smell) the most. One old pair of my sneakers used to drive my one cat wild and he would lick them. My mom thought since they were cheap sneakers that the glue in them was made from fish paste! I think our shoes smell like us, and they like the familiarity... but maybe your cat also likes the salt you leave behind, or the texture of your flip flops.
Last thought- besides the fact that you took him in and are his primary human, he may have experienced separation from his family earlier in life. I have a cat that my sister found as a kitten on a highway. When she initially had him a few weeks, he never let her out of his sight, and now the same is true for me. He has separation anxiety sometimes when I go away, and is all over me for hours when I return. We never know what losses our formerly wild kitties have been through. Sometimes I wonder if they are determined not to lose us too.
"Obsessed" might be a little too strong a word. Cats like ours who never really dealt with humans much take huge leaps of faith to form attachments to us. Obviously you've earned his love and trust despite that, so be glad he was willing to make such big changes, and reciprocate his devotion. He's very cool imho.

I have 2 cats now girls, sisters, and almost 1. One of them follows me in the bathroom as well. Sits on the window ledge and watches me take a shower. In addition when she was smaller use to lay in my shoe. The other dose not. My other cats prior to these two, were 2 males brothers one would follow me around the house room to room and also lay outside the bathroom door until I came out. He would also sleep with me and have a fit if my husband sat next to me on the couch.
So your cat is fine and grate full you took him in. Love and enjoy him.

This could be the first wave of the alien cat invasion. Does the cat purr with a martian accent?
Seriously, this is all relatively normal cat behavior. I've had cats that have done all those things (maybe not the same cat). It's a combination of affection and security.

mine and my roommates cat does the same thing to her (she spends alot more time with him then me, because im am allergic) but he does all the same things to her, sits on the bathtub while she takes a shower, even licks the curtain, watches her sleep, freaks out all day long when she is not at home. how old you think the cat was when you found her, i know our kitty was to young to be taken away from his mother, i think thats why he has the weird attachment... cats can be obbesessed like people i guess LOL

This is my cat! She's 17 and has always been like this. She follows me EVERYWHERE, if I'm sitting on the couch, there she is sleeping in a ball next to me. In my bed at night. Follows me room to room. Some cats are doglike, siamese in particular (mine is a snowshoe siamese). Dogs do the same thing, they follow you. Anyway, be flattered, cats usually pick one person and do become obessed with them.

The cat probably had no family so he needed someone to love and spend time with. He probably was thanking you for taking him home. You should take sometime out of your work to get some cat toys and play with him, maybe even watch TV with it. He is probably obsessed with you because he had no family.

After an afternoon at puppy smart with 0 adoptions;it extremely is a brilliant question! you realize you're captivated with cats while your college's mascot is a cat.(particularly:college of Kentucky Wildcats.). you realize you're captivated with cats:once you sense to blame approximately going out on Saturday night once you will desire to be spending high quality time inclusive of your cats. you realize you're captivated with cats once you're a single male and the loopy cat woman is your dream date.

LOL, I have one just like that, but to make it a little stranger, if my bf is laying next to me with his arm or had on or around me the cat will come up and lay on the other side, and will push my boyfriends had as if he was telling him not to touch me.

Sounds just like a mix of two of my kitties... Dusty, a 10 year old mixed persian rescue we adopted 2 years ago, and Shadow, a 5 year old black short-hair we got when she was a kitten...
They are both obsessed with me, and completely oblivious of my husband, even though he is the one who scoops their litter box, and fills their food bowls, and I'm the one who does all the mean stuff, like combing out knots in their coats, and triming their claws...
Shadow follows me EVERYWHERE, and if I don't acknowledge her, or (heaven forbid! lol) close the bathroom door, she yells at me... meowing her little face off so that you would swear I was murdering her... She always has to be ON me, and feels the need to clean me all the time... she wakes me up by sitting on my chest and putting her front paws on my face... or licking my nose... completely obsessed... (she also has a foot fetish... she will stick her head right into my sneakers and lick them... I know... gross)
Dusty, is our little perv... he always has to be at my feet... and he watches me with his big orange eyes... in the shower... in the washroom... while I'm changing... sometimes it's creepy! lol If I'm changing, and I go to the other side of the room (so that the bed would be blocking his view) he will meow and follow me... lol!! He also freaks out if I don't let him in the bathroom with me... if I close the door, he will throw himself against it, and reach underneath with his legs outstreatched, reaching for me, and calling out to me... it's pretty funny actually...
I'm sure it's all just normal (read: usual insanity) cat behaviour!
