It's supposed to go the account of a person on the return, but if the last names are the same, it might slip0 through. You could call your bank and ask them. The IRS will send it to whatever account number you designate, but the bank might refuse it.

My son who did not have a bank account had his deposited in my account last year. The account number was stated on the return. Having the same last name certainly helped.

No. Your full name and SSN won't match the full name and SSN of the account holder. The bank will reject the deposit, it will go back to the IRS and a paper check will be issued. The process is not instant, so you should ask for a check to be mailed to you in the first place.

Per the instructions for Form 8888, a deposit cannot be made to an account which is not in the taxpayer's name.

I would think so. Just provide the Account you want the money deposited into and you should be ok. Try it.

You can try. But it doesn't always work.
Just fill in the correct account and routing transit number and it may go thru. If it doesn't, they will mail you a notice.
