weigh you down...
They say that "still waters run deep" and I have been practicing getting quiet and just allowing Spirit to enter in,
morning and night.
Trying to practice doing it in the middle of my day when I'm caught up in the whirlwind. Just taking a moment and trying to reflect and remember who is really running the show and to stay out of His way.
Fixating on something that I am grateful about has been helping with it. Ok, I know enough, here's my question...
What do YOU do, to stay centered and focused on your particular path?
I'm sure we all have our moments where we lose sight of it but what do YOU do to bring YOU back?
Apologies for such a long question maybe someday I'll stop procrastinating and write a "real" book. lol
Blessings

What is the source of calm?

The calm person is complete within themselves. They do not define themselves based on relationships, appearance, employment, emotions, or possessions. My wife is part of my life and I love her deeply, but my identity is not based in any part on that love. I am complete on a level that has nothing to do with earthly relationships.

How do we achieve this? It is a long process, and mostly a matter of focus. I find it helpful to keep a few points in mind:

- I am responsible for my actions, inactions, reactions, and emotions.

- Power cannot be taken, it can only be given freely.

- No matter what happens, I will be OK.

What does this mean? It means that unless I give someone the power to affect me, they can't. No one can MAKE me angry; anger is a choice. No one can MAKE ms sad; sorrow is a choice. It means that I can choose to be affected by my emotions or not.

People are master manipulators, and their primary weapons are your emotions. By manipulating your emotions, they cause you to invest yourself in the physical. But its YOU who do the investing, not them. Its YOU who allow them to affect you. It is by YOUR permission that the world controls you. So how do we master our emotions?

Emotions are like our spiritual senses. They are the interpretation of the energy we sense around us. When someone says something hurtful, it is not the words, but the energy or the intention behind the words that cause us pain. To master our emotions is to master our perceptions. It is through our lack of this mastery that people ensnare us by our emotions.

In order to master our perceptions we must first recognize our spiritual nature. We must accept that there is more to existence than the physical. Only then can we approach things from the proper perspective. Most people acknowledge only the physical and are thus unable to place emotions within their proper framework. In trying to understand emotions in terms of physical reality, they become confused.

That being said, you master you emotions by engaging them....by paying attention to them. When you feel yourself growing angry, don't try to turn it off. Instead, ask yourself why. There must be a reason on an energy level for this emotion. Sometimes the cause is obvious; maybe someone said some words that cause the feeling anger. So, ask why. Not why am I angry, but what is this person saying/or doing? Why does it work? Why are they doing it? Often times, merely asking the question yields the answer. Take the focus off of you and examine the situation.

Moreover, ask yourself what purpose anger serves. What stimuli trigger this feeling. For myself, anger usually comes as a result of a perceived lack of respect for my creation. A great example is my twin boys. Recently, they have been leaving their jackets and sweatshirts at school, where they have been taken by other kids. I sat down with them and said:

"Look, I work really hard to buy you those things. I work really hard to provide this life for you. When you don't take care of your jacket you are disrespecting my work."

Beyond that it shows a lack of respect for the life that I am trying to create for my family. But what it really points to is my attachment to that idea. That is the true source of the anger. I have an attachment to a certain ideal, and that attachment provides an anchor for my anger. By removing the anchor we free ourselves from the emotion.

I could probably write a whole book about this topic but I think I had better stop here. I'd be happy to discuss this further via email or whatever if anyone is interested.

It is hard to stay centered and on the path in this world ....so many things come up which make it hard. I know I have dealt with alot of things in my life recently that have really "tried" me ....and maybe this isn't the answer you are looking for ...but I just go to God .... He is in my life everyday but there are times when I just drop and pour it all out to him and ask him to just carry me for right now until I get strong enough to walk ....... and it helps me.

Good Luck ~~~~

it's kinda odd.... but for me, when it's all too much for me to handle at the moment, I gotta get me some GREEN!!!.... put me in the middle of some wild place in the woods, next to a waterfall, preferably or a bubbling stream, and leave me to it..... in a while, I'll come out, on my own, much better frame of mind, tougher, and ready to face whatever's happening.... and if it happens that I cannot get away to find my GREEN, then the botanical garden or my greenhouse will do just fine.... getting close to Nature always calms my spirit....

Your question reminded me of a study in the book of John which touched on the Lord as our Good Shepherd. This One is our Shepherd living in our spirits. Our mind could be likened to the sheep..its always getting caught up and straying in all directions... Be it to our flesh.. to our day to day ins and outs...being caught up with people and situations. I just really appreciated during that time that our Shepherding Lord indwelling us calls us by name.. wherever we are.. He calls to us to turn to Him. To come back to Him as the Green pasture and the Still waters in our spirit where He is. It always touches me sister that we can have such a subjective day to day experience of the Lord... even a moment by moment one. He shepherds our mind back to our spirit where there is His presence and fullness of Joy and Him as our all -sufficient grace to deal with everything life throws our way.
.
2 Tim 4:22
" The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you"

For me I just enjoy stopping and just calling upon the Name of the Lord. Just calling and receiving the Person of this name responding to me, to fill me with His sweet presence and life and peace. There is something just amazing about the Lord's name that makes everything pale in comparision. His name is such a High Tower.. where the righteous run in and are saved. His Name is as ointment poured forth, its sweet upon our lips, His name is Who He is being our rich supply for any situation.

Sometimes sister, when I do not even know how to pray I simply spend the time calling upon His name. He is so all inclusive and within Him is everything I need. As the Shepherd in our spirits He knows our real inward condition and need. He knows how to minister His life to us according to what He sees.
May we all just touch Him by callling upon His blessed name
" Lord Jesus... Sweet Lord Jesus"
Its almost like breathing spiritually. Sometimes sister I just need a breath of fresh air in my being.

ROmans 8:6
" For the Mind set on the flesh is death.. but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace"
Praise the Lord.. the mind set on the spirit IS life and Peace. There is the Prince of Peace and the King of Life in our spirit. This Precious Living Lord!

Keep abiding sweet sister

LOL, I totally understand. We writers have a hard time being concise when we have something to say ;)

I meditate to stay focused, mesh with deity and find answers to issues with which I need to deal.
