Oh Rosie, Christmas day for me is going to be a nightmare
my dad, sister and 3 brothers and i will all sit down to dinner and try not to upset each other, oh dont get me wrong it's not that we dont get along, because we do.
The reason we will be trying not to upset each other is this will be our first Christmas with out our mum, you see she died in January of this year, in fact she died 6 weeks after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and the pain of losing a parent is unbearable and really does put less important things in life into perspective.
I dont really care who gets a turkey breast or who pulls the wish bone, i really couldn't give a toss who watches the queens speech and if i get brussel sprouts on my dinner plate.
Christmas is supposed to be a magical time of year, and a time for family's to be together, my family will be together only we will be minus the person who held us all together and that hurts me more than anything.
Make an effort to talk to your mum and dad, it may seem like a real chore but at least you have family to be with, some people are not so lucky and will be totally alone and isolated,
i may not have my mum, but at least i've got the rest of my family to get me through!

Ugh. Poor you. Get a get out plan made for later in the day, like you have to visit a sick friend or feed someone's cat or something. Then if you are staying with your parents, come back really late so they will all be in bed or so you can go straight to bed. If not, whooppeee, away you go till next year, obligations fulfilled. other options are long walks "to walk off the dinner" and dropping cards round at people's houses. Good luck!

I'm in a similar situation, I usually have a few glasses of wine at dinner then the afternoon becomes very vague for me and alittle weird/funny, I also usually rent out a DVD from my local library as the television is rubbish on Christmas day for those of us who don't have large families or relatives visiting. You'll get through it, just see it as a Lazy day, happy xmas!

you poor sweety, first of all I think it's highly inappropriate for your dad to be so brazen in saying he's going to leave your mum when you're 16.
I think maybe you should encourage some quality time, sit down together and play a game. Just try to do something which will allow you all to interact.x.

Hopefully your parents can put their differences aside and try to make the day happy for everyone you should put in some effort too just try to get through it as quickly and peacefully as you can. My advice don't say anything. Just sit quietly and speak when your spoken to that way your parents cant have a go at you.

Be grateful for what you have. Parents and an opportunity to have a meal with them, speaking or not. You will get through the day.
