I am presently unemployed and thinking of training to get a certification.

What are good certifications? What what salary could I expect?

I became a certified weldor in 1980...good benefits...salary varies...Union in Ca. is around $40.00 an hr. It's fun to learn about welding and fabricating...that's my perspective...You can find out about starting out as an apprentice. You go to school, get a job and work as an apprentice for 4 years, during this time your learning your trade getting hands on experience and getting payed. If you apply yourself, test, pass, your level of pay I believe is raised. From what I hear they start an apprentice starts off at anywhere from 12-14$$$ an hr...You can always check with the ROP regional Occupational program...in your area...I'm not sure if they have a cut off on the age group of people they help...can't hurt to ask...If you talk to them ask them about the test they give to check where you score high in,It shows the trades that would best fit how you scored on the tests,it lets you know what you'd be interested in. I took it right out of high school and that's what guided me to welding school...Hope this helped...also if you go through welding,or any other trade school through adult Eucation schools in your area ask the them about a Pel Grant...it's a grant you don't have to pay back...Good Luck in whatever you do... Merry Christmas :)
Also,In 1992, I became liseanced Cosmotologist...Depending on your drive....Hairstylists can make some good money...I don't work at a shop but I do hair when I'm asked by friends, aquaintences...etc...Good Luck...I had to add...yes a pharmacist does make bank. my daughters friend was making 14.00$ right out of high school
