STOP!!!!!!!!
it is a great jesture but-----

After having received a share of email, comments, and Google News alerts, on the matter of sending Christmas cards to Walter Reed Army Medical Center I have decided that a posted needed to be dedicated purely to the matter in question.

The easy answer is simply, DO NOT SEND ANY SOLDIER/WOUNDED WARRIOR/RECOVERING SOLDIER/AMERICAN HERO MAIL TO WALTER REED.

It will not be received. There are many reasons. One being that there is a 2001 regulation saying that it cannot be done. It also says that the mail will not be accepted, but there is a larger problem than that. And unfortunately it is a logistical one.

Say you're praying for them and hope they're doing well. Tell them we are all thinking of them this Christmas and hope they get home soon.

BTW, I was thinking of doing this also. How/where do you send the cards?

Thanks a bunch

edit: Thanks for the address. I'll be sending a bunch. Hope evryone else does too. God Bless.

PLEASE READ: I checked with Snopes and they said that WALTER REED HOSPITAL WILL NOT ACCEPTS CARDS addressed to a generic soldier. This is due to fears that someone may try and harm the soldiers (aka anthrax scare). They have partnered with the RED CROSS and Pitney Bowes so cards can be sent to them, sorted and then sent to soldiers.

Something alot better.

Locate your nearest VA hospital or Veterans center and go in person. You will get an opportunity to meet Veterans from various conflicts and thank them for their sacrifice.

With that huge amtrak scare, cards and packages can't be sent by the post office to any unknown soldier. There are tons of non-profit organizations sending cards etc;
