It's called hyperacuity. My son has Auditory Processing Disorder and certain sounds drive him batty (like the sound of a ceiling fan running or someone cracking their knuckles) because, although they seem quiet to everyone else, to him, it's like a freight train running through his head. Hope this helps

A lot of children and adults who have an autistic spectrum disorder have an auditory processing disorder. This means they very often hear background noises very loudly. For example the slight buzzing of a fluorescent light can sound extremely loud and can block out other noises. Hope this helps.

Auditory hyperesthesia. This should be distinguished from tinnitus, which is the production of false sound signals from the ear; or auditory hallucination, which is the production of false perception of sound in the cortex.
And it's technically a physiological anomaly, not a mental disorder.

Maybe Williams syndrome? Kids with this syndrome have exceptionally good hearing and often have absolute pitch. It's also associated with autism and mental retadation.
Autistic kids in general often have trouble filtering out extraneous noise which often causes behavioral issues.
