I always get my feelings out better whenever I write them down, so when I was younger, I wrote my mom a note about it and let her approach me afterwards. She handled it pretty well (much better than I expected).

Mom, dad- I'm a woolly booger I need to start shaving, can you show me how?
Just teasing you, I don't know what type of parents you have. But just tell them, it really isn't a big deal...I don't know why some parents make so much of it. My mother never showed me, I just went in their bathroom and took a couple of disposable razors. I was a hairy 6th grader and wouldn't wear shorts because my legs were hairy. It was embarrassing!
Remember to just be very very very careful and go slow.

My dad's side of the family is a mix of Irish and Native American, so as a kid I had dark, coarse hair on my legs, and I hated it. I begged my mom to let me shave when I was in 5th grade but she wouldn't let me. Though she did allow me to use Nair.
When I got into 6th grade, I just told her how embarrassing it was that my hair was so much darker and coarser than the other girls and that I didn't want to be made fun of. She showed me how to shave my legs.
I thought it was so great to be able to shave back then, now at 30 I hate to have to shave.
Don't be in a huge rush unless the hair is very visible.

Buy yourself some shaving gel, and a razor. Ask your mom if she can help you with something in your room. When she gets there, close the door, and bring out the shaving stuff... ask her if she will show you how to do it...
If your a guy do this but with your dad.
Its nothing to be ashamed of.

Ask your mom to show you how to do it so that you don't nick yourself until you get more experience doing it. Same with boys asking their dad's for shaving tips.

in case you and your dad share a washing room, turn or rotate his razor once you shave. then you definitely're dad will come to you, and inform you to stop. Then tell him you like your guy or woman. this is the least difficult way.

Just ask you mum to show you, much better than trying yourself, I cut my legs to ribbons when i first tried, so get some advice from your mum. She has been through this when she was younger, so its no big deal to her.

I didn't ask, I just did it. I don't see what the big deal is, its just hair removal.
EDIT: I don't mean big deal about you wanting to, I mean the big deal parents make about it. My mom was pissed btw that I did it w/out asking. Really, what IS the big deal?
