If the wine is something you like, it should be fine.

As long as you like the taste of the wine before you put it in the beef burgandy, I don't think that it has to essentially be a specific type of red wine...personally I like my red wine little bit sweet tasting anyway, at least the ones I drink. I know that most people say you should use dry, red wine, but this might turn out really great tasting or there may not be all that much difference in the taste since the wine essentially cooks out and just leaves an essence of it's flavor.

I can't see that how this wine would make your beef burgandy turn out really bad. If you used something like sangria, a really fruity, sweet, red wine, or a merlot, then sure, I could possibly understand that your recipe might turn out horrible tasting. But if you use sour cream in your recipe, it takes out some of the sweetness anyway. Just use the semisweet red wine in moderation the first time to see if you like how it tastes made with this type of wine. If you don't like the taste, you will know to use a different type of red wine next time. But I honestly don't think it sounds bad at all.

People like me are always experimenting with food to find out what we really like and what we will never cook again. I hope this beef burgandy turns out really yummy tasting! Good luck to you!

I wouldn't use a semi sweet wine unless you want a sweeter taste in the end product. Someone answered previously that it will cook out...only the alcohol cooks out. The taste of the wine will concentrate as the liquid reduces during cooking so it will actually get a little sweeter. This is why a dry wine is usually used in cooking.

As long as you like the wine, it will be fine as most of it cooks out anyway. Just don't use too much.

The recipe should call for an amount of a cup or less- so it’s not that much. You probably have some other liquids other than water, so it will be fine. Dry is better though.

you might need to add more salt to balance the sweetness but it should be fine.
