You know, Pope John Paul II attended the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, and was an athlete, actor and playwright. He learned over 15 languages during his lifetime, including Latin, Ukrainian, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, English other than his native Polish. He was a scholar in Theology, History, Philosophy and the arts. He was also the author of many books, encyclicals and other pastoral documents and papers. Does he sound dumb to you?

Now, I don't quite match that resume, but I did attend state college, and as I write this, I am earning $26 an hour at a Pharmeseutical Company which I won't name at this time.

So, can someone tell me why some Yahoo trolls, who often can't even spell correctly, have the audacity to say the Christians are somehow uneducated or backwards?

There are many people who think that only people who are ignorant could believe in things that they find hard to believe in. They believe that all people who are smart can reason effectively and therefore understand that there is no such thing as a god or an afterlife, or anything like that. ... That science has all the answers and that science disproves God.

Of course, none of that is true, but they like to believe that because that's what many bright atheists believe. They also like to point out all the ignorant people who believe in God and fail to see any ignorant people who are atheists.

I should know, because I once was one of those atheists, but I didn't have the gall to make fun of people who believed in God. I thought they were stupid, but never said anything to their face. It's much easier now with the anonymity of the sites like this.

NOUN:

An event that appears inexplicable by the laws of nature and so is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God.

I wonder how many of those who snicker at the idea of talking serpents and donkeys are also interested in paranormal phenomenon, UFO's, etc. One is just about as inexplicable by the laws of nature as the other.

I'm also a little curious about those who accuse Christians of being ignorant and deliberately obtuse. I'm Catholic, and subjects like evolution and science don't send me scurrying under the bed in terror. I've got a Master's Degree in English, I've loved the study of geology and earth science since I was in grade school, and I applaud medical advances. I brought the same research skills to bear on the subject of my religious beliefs that I use for any other form of study, and I based my choice of church affiliation accordingly.

So this makes me willfully ignorant and fearful. . .exactly how?

The actual query is . . . what's intelligence? Is it being trained in worldly lecturers, or is it acquiring non secular expertise and knowledge? Is it higher to understand alot of understanding approximately technology, math, mathematics's, literature, and so on? Or is it higher to understand how to like, be compassionate, giving, forgiving, and such a lot of all spiritually mindful? It is determined by what you significance in lifestyles, however the factor that all of us must keep in mind as individuals is that not anything in lifestyles is assured besides for demise. We will all die, and we will be able to go away with what we got here in with. . . not anything. Although they do make lifestyles right here in the world higher, worldly matters are of no value and schooling, profession, or something else that we keep expensive in brand new society don't have any location within the non secular realm. I don't consider that God goes to invite me if I recognize why the earth rotates on an axis, or what's cell breathing, despite the fact that I do experience studying. Most folks simply quote what they learn or what they have got heard to sound wise. They have no longer performed the study for themselves. I might alternatively be academically dull and feature a dating with the heavenly father than be extremely genius and no longer. It all comes all the way down to that one factor for your lifestyles wherein you ask yourself one superb query. . . whilst I seem again, whilst I am taking my final breath, what is going to quite subject?

I think in some cases, non-believers mistake a Christian’s faith for being brainwashed. The Holy Spirit grants faith to believers and changes their hearts. It is not something that everybody feels or relates to. Don’t let anyone offend you. As a Christian I respect everyone’s opinion and if they want to think I’m stupid and old fashioned, let them. I don’t believe in shoving my belief back onto them. That is a major turn off for anybody. I think some people may resent Christians because they feel they have been judged or pestered by them in the past so that may explain why they stereotyped Christians as unintelligent. They may not have ever met a Christian who set a positive example of living by faith.

I know for a fact that all of them are not dumb, just a lot of them are. I think its because they feel they dont have to climb that mountain that leads to heaven ( metaphorically speaking), a lot of them have the mentality that no matter what they do that they'll automatically recieve paradise in the next life because jesus supposedly was the ultimate sacrifice and died for everyone's sins, and that installs a lack of thirst for knowledge and a lack of self discipline and that can lead to some very destructive behavior.

I have a good friend who is very smart and is nevertheless a practicing Catholic. His approach to life and religion is that the Catholic hierarchy has pretty much figured out the right way to live over the past 2000 years, and that he should therefore just follow their instructions. This, he argues, is a great simplification to his life that allows him to concentrate on the things that matter.

It is very important to him that church doctrine is not in conflict with a scientific understanding of the world.

Of course he was raised a Catholic.

I don't think Christians are dumb... I think they are deluded.
I think many Americans are scientifically illiterate.
I don't know why you or anyone else is so afraid of the possibility of a purely natural universe, that you refuse to acknowledge bona fide science that points to that fact.
The world is a beautiful place... Life is incredible...
I don't need "god" to feel privileged to be a part of nature.

And I apologize for the "coward" remark.

Have a nice day.

Because unfortunately a people like to generalize and seem unable to distinguish real life Christians from the fundamentalists they see on TV.
