My best friend in elementary school, I was staying over at his house for the first time. His parents made this absolutely disgusting potato/egg/meat/vegetable pile of crap for dinner. Kind of like a quiche with extra nasty sprinkles.
I didn't want to insult them because it was the first time I was staying at their house overnight. So I slowly choked it down, the whole time insisting that I was "savoring" it. I do NOT hide my emotions well, so I'm sure it was painfully obvious to everyone concerned that I hated it. Ugh. Still turns my stomach thinking about it 15 years later.

My mother in law is an awesome Italian cook. Everything she makes is delicious! So when we went to her house for dinner and she was making chicken enchiladas, I assumed they would be just as delicious as everything else. I even skipped lunch, so I was starving by dinner time. They were chewy, had way too many onions, and the sauce was sour and smelled like vomit. I choked about a third of my plate down, then pretended like I had a big lunch and couldn't eat another bite. I picked up some sushi on the way home and scarfed it down!

I worked as a health care extra in an older couples home. Part of my job was to make breakfast and help her with cooking dinner. She thought all veggies HAD to have bacon grease in them....I have always hated bacon grease in any veggies, but, not to hurt her feelings, I choked them down every day for the 4 months I lived there. (I lived there through the week and went home on weekends.)

My daughter's mother-in-law (she is from the Philippines)is a great cook and I almost always enjoy the foods from her country. However, one time she fixed a variation of pancit and when I saw her add tee-tiny whole fish less than an inch long, HEADS, GUTS and ALL along with chitterlings, blood gravy and dried baby shrimp and goodness only knows what else, I lost it! I didn't fake it. I just said, "No thanks!"

My mother, normally a fairly decent cook, attempted to make clam chowder. It was a disaster. I knew she put a lot of effort into it. It was the weirdest grey color, like a broth, but had clumps of flour or cornstarch swimming in it. It was extremely salty, not creamy at all- tasted worse than ocean water. So awful!

The Mother's Day breakfasts my kids have made. My 4 yr.old daughter thinks that scrambled eggs taste better when mixed with tuna and olives! I fully intend to teach her kids how to make this dish someday!

Everything my mother in law cooks. It never has any seasoning. I hate eating bland food.
