I'm discovering in America there is a huge Anti-Semitic following. Can someone explain why?

I discovered this accidently when my inbox was bombarded with hate mail due to a question I asked and the mistaken belief that I am Jewish.

Sadly, you will find anti semitism in most countries. There is also a hell of a lot of it on the net, with entire websites dedicated to spreading the same old stupid lies about Jews.

We are hated primarily because people believe bizarre things about our religion and our beliefs. Many also appear to feel we are sufficiently brilliant so as to 'run' the world's media. I mean hey, we're good but we're not THAT good!!!

Anti semitism is scary because of course we all know that the result can be the deaths of millions and the attempted genocide of an entire religious group. That's why as Jews many of us swear 'Never Again' - and we do our best to be vigilant and to note instances of true racism. And of course it's also why Israel is so cherished by us.

Some of the worst anti semitic propoganda, though, is found in Islamic countries. I've seen some of the racist material that is published and distributed out there and it is based directly on Nazi propoganda. Hateful stuff.

One really good book about anti semitism is 'Anti semitism: The Longest Hatred'. It analyses the longevity and intensity of this particular prejudice; I forget the author's name, sorry :)

Hello. Well, I think we have to remember that the population of the United States is over 300,000,000. In a group that large, you are going to have geniuses and fools, wise men and bigots, people who save lives and people who take lives. I don't know necessarily that there is a "huge" anti-Semitic following if you look at it in proportion to the overall population of the US, but of course any amount of hatred and bigotry is too much and people of conscience should speak out against it. We have too many people who judge others on the basis of their skin color or ethnicity, when the real criteria should be on the rightness of the deeds of each person.

i wouldn't call it huge, just delusional and avid. these are people under the false impression that they live in a christian nation and that their values are being undermined by an increasingly secular and global culture. their response is to retreat into their religion, which has from the first colonization been used to justify their belief that they are a superior race. thus, they were able to eradicate the natives of the land without guilt, keep slaves, and isolate themselves from the rest of the world. the civil war and the two world wars only forced them deeper into their delusions, culminating in a current congressional resolution praising the contribution of christianity and only christianity to the american nation. they are not representative of the typical american, but unfortunately, because of their zealotry and moralistic indignation, they wield a great deal of power.

it's an embarrassment to have to share a nation with them.

Ignorant people always look for some group to scapegoat. People of good will must speak out against this scapegoating, whether its target is Jews, atheists, Christians, gays, etc. We either stand together or let the haters win.
