Having lived with an alcoholic for 15 years (he committed suicide in 2000) I feel uniquely qualified to answer this question...
Family Dangers are many: DUI's, physical-emotional abuse, inability to keep a job, money problems, withdrawing from family and friends, embarrassing-alienating friends and family, health concerns (i.e.: cirrohsis of the liver), mental problems, blackouts, undue anger, withdrawal..and on and on...
The Spiritual dangers are loss of compassion for others, loss of self-worth, "Blaming" God, Inability to believe in something greater than ones self...
Suicide would fall under BOTH categories...
My husband shot himself in 2000 (in my presence) and died 12 days later (also in my presence)...
There are NO, I repeat NO good things about alcoholism...and anyone who says differently is an IDIOT.

alcohol will eventually modify the mood and charactor of the individual. They will appear as two , one when intoxicated and one when not. Its a Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde complex. This makes the whole family live on pins and needles. For that abuser paranoid behaviors, immature actions, bad decisions all increase over time. ITs a downward spiral as the alcohol eventually takes on an addictive form and the body becomes chemically dependent. The abuser will loose their soul, they will loose themselves in the addiction. THe bottle takes on the role of god, friend, lover. spirituality is non existent after a while and a more primitive state of looking for the next high takes over the mind. Really really bad stuff. you will loose yourself.

There are no spiritual dangers because spirits do not exist... well, accept the term for alcohol that is also called spirits. It's dangerous to the brain to abuse alcohol. Coming from a broken household, I can also say that it ruins marriages and separates families.

The Bible does warn about the bad consequences of overindulgence in alcohol. Ephesians 5:18 admonishes: “Do not be getting drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery.” Also, Proverbs 23:20, 21 exhorts: “Do not come to be among heavy drinkers of wine, among those who are gluttonous eaters of flesh. For a drunkard and a glutton will come to poverty.”
The Bible also mentions the pleasures and benefits of drinking moderately. For instance, Psalm 104:15 states that one of God’s gifts is “wine that makes the heart of mortal man rejoice.” And the reward for doing good works, says Ecclesiastes 9:7, is to “eat your food with rejoicing and drink your wine with a good heart.”
Both of these articles are great for discussing the trap of overindulging in alcohol. Scripture-based counsel given.

I'll have to agree with Smile on this one...Johnny Thunders is a glam legend. Marianne Faithful's "Sister Morphine" is absolutely breathtaking; I'd go as far to say the original is even better than the Rolling Stones' cover on Sticky Fingers.

Well, narcotic abuse can permenantly damage the CNS - the 'Central Nervous System', and your spiritual health can suffer because of that (see- misunderstanding of the soul).
As for family, they'll probably have difficulty communicating with you because you'll be out of your freakin mind most of the time.

They keep you NUMB to your surroundings, and really whats going on in your life!! Your spirit is numb, and doesn't feel the presence of the lord, actually blocking him out, and allowing the evil one more room!!.
Why do you think so many bad things happen while using either!!
