Wish I could spend a lot of time on this question. I remember studying this (on my own) and had lots of notes. But I have a very poor memory and lose everything. (I've read the whole bible..but certainly don't have it memorized...and it's too gory for me..)
1. The bible is written by man. Man makes mistakes. They are not perfect. God says so.
2. Much of the bible is historical, and what is written needs to be taken into consideration as to the time, place, culture, who talking to whom, what the consequences of conformity or non-conformity would be, etc. etc. For example, you see in Timothy that it is Paul talking Timothy and Paul say "I" desire that women learn in silence..he didn't say "God"...They also had all kinds of concubines back then...and greek/latin translations make a world of difference...think how different the language systems are...AND the original bible DID NOT HAVE PUNCTUATION and that makes a huge difference. And we have to remember it was man translating in a time where women were inferior and there was a great deal of political strife, unfair dealings, war, etc. etc.
3. Helper is a Helper. Not a slave. People help each other. Doesn't make one inferior because they are helping. In fact, I would say that Man needs lots and lots of help that's why God created Women...because Man is helpless! lol.....
4. I'm pretty sure in the end it says "there is neither male nor female..." you can really start thinking about that and gay marriages and society...
5. Christ talked to a lot of women at a time when it was not "politically correct" for him to do so.
6. Then there's the whole "do unto others" thing...
Much of the bible is history, and that is why there is so much "subservientude." People have to keep things in context.
Christ wants to set us free, not make us slaves. But we serve those we love. (I serve my children...am I a slave to them? well actually i am...lol...i do it because i love them..i am free to walk away at any time (although the thought would not even remotely cross my mind).
I think a modern term is "servant leadership." Leading by serving others. That's a lot like Christ. So this "man is to be like christ" thing could mean men should be serving us because we love them...(that was just a spontaneous thought..have to give more thought to that so not sure if I'll want to retract that statement later...)
Anyhow, we are different but "equal" as poor as the word "equal" is. One is not over the other. Above all else is love, love covers all wrongs, love is the most important command..follow that and everything else falls into place...Love one another.
P.S. read something funny once...For those that say Man is superior because he was created first..keep in mind that Animals were created before Man...lol...

The Bible does not teach that women should be subservient to men, but that the Husband is responsible for the family, and the wife is his helper.

No, I don't believe that the Bible is completely the word of God. I believe that the text was extremely influenced by the culture of the area in which it was written in. Since the culture of where the books of the Bible were written was mainly patriarchal, the Bible follows that culture.

Paul said "there's no man or woman in Christ"
which means they're all equal.
but the same guy says women should shut up in church.
that some food for thought.
but he also gives the reason for that.
he says the woman fell and not man..
the woman fell because she was inferior.
i know women will hate to hear this.
but he was an apostle, and i believe he knew better than us.

No.
Equal?
No.
Pilot and co-pilot?
Yes.
Did you ever take up ballroom dancing?
One has to lead.
The God of the bible says man leads.
It doesn't make the other partner lesser in any way.
As respects dancing, it actually is something quite beautiful to behold.

The Promise Keepers actually practice this.
If it wasn't such complete nonsense, I would become one of them.
It would be cool to have a slave-wife.

Eve was made from Adams rib (his side) not the foot bone. We are to love our wives like Christ loves the church

It's kinda odd their 'god' gave the uterus, the cradle of life, to the 'evil doing' gender, eh?
The bible degrades the divine.
