Surprisingly, everyone says to eat a lot of carbs. What works for me is a big, juicy ribeye or porterhouse steak. The steak is protein and it stays in your stomach longer to be digested. I find that it helps to prevent the alcohol from absorbing as fast and I can drink more and longer. If you eat carbs, those carbs turn into sugar that you are mixing with the drink of your choice that night, which is also sugar. The total sugar you take in is what makes you feel a hangover the next morning. The alcohol also dries you out over the course of the night. I will eat a steak and drink all night with no problem. As a matter of fact, I ate 2 ribeyes last weekend and ran up a $170 tab at the bar by myself.
Good times!!!

Lots of veggies and protein. Make sure you go low on sugar and high on vitamins and minerals. If I think of it, I eat spinach or yam and a fish fillet or shrimp skewer.

The sugars in your drinks, either from the drink itself or the mix, will spike your blood sugar anyhow. Lots of protein and fibre will slow down those blood sugar spikes. So, avoid carby foods unless they have lots of fibre. All Bran cereal would be a good pre-drinking food; white rice would not.

Part of your hangover is caused by the alcohol washing out your vitamins and minerals. That's why you should eat plenty of green leafy, orange vegetables, juices, and a piece of meat, fish, tofu, or some nuts.

Strangely, I also find that a bottle of Lucozade Sport or Gatorade before drinking really helps prevent a hangover.

I've just heard on the radio, a recent study says that a banana will prevent absorbing part of the alchool.

Breads and acrbs help to absorb and then protein for energy and coating of the stomach like some hotdogs, burgers, steak, etc. Try to stay away from dairy alot of alcohol will curdle the dairy and then well you will puke.

Make sure you eat PROTEIN to stabilize your blood sugar level.
Stay away from carbs (especially simple carbs, such as white refined foods). Your alcohol and sugar level will spike and you won't feel good.
If you need to have any carbs, make sure they're complex carbs, such as brown rice, whole grains etc...BUT you need protein either way.
Don't eat anything fatty either.

The best foods to eat are proteins like eggs, cheese, nuts, boiled potatoes, two tablespoons of olive or sunflower oil, pickles, and other salty foods.
