What do you consider the single biggest change policing can make to deal with its problems?

Police officers need to read the constitution and re-learn the fact that everyone is innocent. Even people that they are forced to arrest are innocent at that point and should be treated with respect and dignity. They know laws, and tend to be hardened by what they've seen and believe that everyone is lying to them. Some, maybe most, of the people they deal with are guilty. But they need to learn to treat everyone as the constitution guarantees they will be treated - innocent. Too often you hear police officers refer to people they deal with as scumbags, and that is just not fair.

Certainly those proven innocent shouldn't be labeled as scum, as even those who are guilty are human, not scum.

This will be one of my final comments with regard to cops.
They need to shed the big ego, realize that taxpayers fund their wages and healthcare and pensions. They need to act like responsible adults, stop intimidating people, lose the bad attitude, and get better educated. If any cop disagrees
then you need to quit being a cop before you cause anymore damage! Wise up. Anyone who disagrees with my comments is not living in the real world.

they should focus more on real criminals instead of revenue from speeding tickets and prostitution stings .....
put all criminals in solitary confinement .. have much more capital death sentences and carry them out swiftly especially for rapists including child rapists .....
legalize drugs and prostitution .....
make it a jailable offense for blocking traffic, tailgaiting and slamming on your brakes to try to cause accidents ....

this is where I would start
