And if so, how do you know that it was truly God that applied this punishment and not mere unfortunate coincidence?

I've often cursed God or called God a douchbag, and although bad things have sometimes followed such an outburst, good things have as well.

Villiers L: OMG, does that mean I am Satan?? Let me see... no horns... no tail... no pitchfork in hand. No, I still don't have a million dollars and a harem of delicious VTs to ravage before me. Bah! Another false hope!

Behonest: Here's my theory on that. The translators you mention begin by replacing the original text with their own doctored version. They then make all kinds of hullaballoo about modifying the text of the Bible to their own ends. They do so, temporarily replacing their doctored copy with the old one, and then they act as if they've become mute. The Scripture is then reverted to the DOCTORED one and the translators shake their heads with remorse on the outside, but giggle evilly on the inside that their true words have insinuated themselves into Scripture.

Not that I know of, but when I prayed for five years for YHVH (Yahweh) to alleviate my depression, I eventually became atheist and became much happier. Maybe I asked too much of him, so he punished me while answering my prayer at the same time? :) If so, I'm very appreciative.

Have you ever read the verse that God lets it rain on the just and unjust alike? God knows this earth is all you get and God is merciful toward you.

God will not be mocked and for every idle word that you speak you will be held accountable. Becoming a stumbling block to others is even a greater punishment. God says that heaven and earth may pass away but His Word will not.

You need to know the Word of God. Get you a King James Bible and start reading. Be thankful that you are abiding on the mercies of God. If we all got what we deserved, we would be in horrible shape.

I remember a case like this. It happened on Caddo Lake outside of Shreveport, La. These friends were enjoying a day out on the lake when a storm was brewing. One of the men stood up in the boat and declared "if i'm lying, may lightening strike me... and behold in the next few moments that is exactly what happened...I don't know If the man survived, but it is a true story...Let us not be so bold in the future. Have a little respect.

The good things could be from the demons, who are served by such statements. And the lack of direct punishment could mean the worst punishment possible, what Scripture calls 'the filling up of their sins'. In other words, you are being allowed (allowed !!) to go the limit so that you will truly deserve the horrendous punishment you are so eagerly seeking.

God the Father, punishes or Judges no man, neither Does the Son, Jesus the Christ. The Christ Judges spirits only, which are them who have died, and only on Judgment Day, will they be Judged.

Satan judges and punishes men, those spirits housed in a body, the souls.

Taking the name of God in vain is not cussing, or using the name of God in conjunction with a cuss word. Taking God's name in vain, is the act of declaring that you are God, or deceiving those that follow your teachings, that you are teaching in the name of God, when you are not.

When Satan told Moses "I am that I am" he decieved Moses into thinking he was God, as Satan had done to Abraham, Saul, David, Solomon, and you.

Read Second Kings 2:24 These kids mocked a prophet of God and look what happened. It was a bit too elaborate to be a coincidence.

Well, the ultimate punishment for your rebellious ways will come after you leave this earth. When you stand before God on judgement day, your knees will knock, and you might not even be able to stand before His awesome glory.

When you see for yourself how majestic God is - that He is holy and righteous and altogether true and full of infinite love and mercy, and then you look down at your self and you see just how filthy you are by all the accumulated sin and rebellion and mocking and scoffing that you're doing, you will feel so much intense shame and embarrasement for rejecting this God of Love, that you will look for the nearest exit and find your own way into the pits of hell.

Well John Lennon just before he walked out the door , Cursed God and told him he didn't need his interference . About 2 minutes before he was shot dead. That is just one record. Most people aren't famous enough to get the published truth.

You know if you curse or defame god you show the you are a true believer. I'm sure if there was a god he would be pleased that you at least believe so strongly in him.

Take look at some of the men that translated the NIV. They added to and took away from God's word and shortly thereafter completely lost their ability to speak.
