Well, first, in the interest of etiquette, you should have talked to them before you talked to your landlord. While there are some ignorant boobs out there, most people will be more inclined to be polite if they have some face to face contact with their neighbors.
But, since they had already been informed of the problem, you were well within your rights to call the police. I had some problem neighbors last year and I ended up having to call the police three times. Just be sure you report to your landlord that you called the cops so that if it doesn't solve the problem, it will be easier for him to evict them if they continue to be problem tenants.

Did you talk to your neighbors? I wouldn't rely on your landlord to do the talking for you. They may not even realize that the walls are that thin, or that they are being that loud I had loud neighbors (live in a college town... everyone is drunk 24/7) All i did was go over there and (nicely!) explain that i can hear them partying all night and i would appreiciate it it they could keep it down during the week when i work early in the morning. They were really apologetic, and kept the partying in the room that wasnt next to mine so i didnt hear them. They didnt realize that i could hear them all night long, or that i even had to get up early. Bringing the police into it is just going to escalate it to a level that you dont want it to be at.

Hopefully it will solve the problem. I'm afraid that things may only get worse for you these people are immature. If you talked to the landlord about it, there's nothing else you can do.
Does your apartment have any rules on noise at certain times at night? If not, than you aren't really in your right to demand that they be quiet. Of course, it's the right thing for them to do, but they don't have to comply if that is not one of the rules of the apartment, I do not believe. Hopefully the police visit will calm them down.

It might have been within your rights, but don't expect it to do much. Odds are, noisy neighbors who have no respect for the others who live around them, will not be stopped by a police visit, and if they discovered who reported them, things could get nasty. If in an apartment complex, a better bet would be to talk to the landlord, who can evict these guys if this crap keeps up, esp. if there's a noise policy on the rental agreement.

I did the same thing last week at 5am. But I had to call the cops twice because when they came the first time, they turned down the music for 10 minutes then turned it right back up again. They finally ended the party around 6am on their own. So basically, it did no good at all.

You did the right thing......keep on calling the police until the problem is resolved, it is now in the hands of the police. It may take time but eventually the neighbors will comply, or face other consequences with the police department...

I am going to assume that you have talked to them in the past since you said that you've already complained to the landlord. I think that yes calling the police was fine considering that this has happened before and you said that it was particularly loud.

I think YOU should have talked to the neighbor...do you know for sure that the landlord talked to the neighbors?having thepolice called on you can be quite embarrasing especially if you arent aware you're being too loud...considering most people dont know how well their neighbors can hear them....I think depending on your neighbors this could've mad the situation worse......what can you expect? complaints against you anytime you make a peep they can hear, dirty looks, bad reputation in the neighborhood.....the list could go on

So long as the police didn't tell them who complained.
I recently e-mailed the police about certain cars and their loud supposed music, that only vibrates the house as they drive by, it has seemed to work. I have no idea what the police told them.
I look at it as.....their infringing on my quality of life, how would they like it if I infriged on theirs?
