I have never seen any answer as rude as bkk's and I view that as an insult to my country!!!!
His two years of stay in China must be a waste of time and full of hatred and I, as a Chinese here in China, would like to tell him that he is not welcome to step on China again.

To answer your question.
Isn't love is a practical need????
Do you build up your relationship without the foundation of "love"??????
If ever you have time, you may read some old Chinese love poems or quotations of Confucius and you will know more about how Chinese view "love".
By the way, what is the western concept of love?
We cherish old values - family, traditions, respects.

Love is a universal emotion. It may manifest itself in many forms depending on the culture and tradition but regardless, love felt between two people is the same whatever their race or culture. But love is, in China as elsewhere, very different from marriage. Love is an emotion that defies definitions. It is an idea that can be felt, but not easily described with words. Marriage on the other hand involves social, cultural, economic and other factors such as practicality, that may or may not involve love with a capital L. I don't think the idea of marriage is very different in China, although I would venture to say that (often, or at times, but I don't know), marrying someone in China has additional layers of family and societal values (respect for parents, for example) than in the West. I know young couples who were in love and got married. I also know a few couples who were in love but who did not get married because the parents had other expectations. That's not unique to China though.

The country has nothing to do with it. The definition of love differs from each individual to individual. Some take love seriously, and unfortunately some base wealth on it just like other countries.
P.S- The person D Wade is complete wrong.

It is actually similar to Texas love.
First you meet, share a steak, shoot something after a few quiet beers by the local lovers hangout, the man beats the women.........then love.

Love? in China? ha ha ha ha ha These people sell their kids! They expect their daughters to sleep with their business clients so they might buy more goods from them. Love? It simply doesnt exist in China.
The only love they have is for money. EVERYTHING else is secondary.
