Someone who was moving out of their place here in NYC left behind the neatest thing. It was a large (2-1/2' x 2-1/2' x 2' wide) wicker, well, doohickey, like a cube, but with the bottom cut out, and a little door-like hole cut about 4" up from the bottom. You fit this over the litter pan, and it looks just like a cube table, especially if you face the little door toward the wall. It is classy-looking wicker, finished with a natural finish, tightly woven, and strung on a wire frame.
You could keep it in the bath or in a laundry room, a far corner of the kitchen, the bedroom, wherever the air currents and aesthetics have an optimum convergence.
The problem is, I have no idea whatsoever where the people who left this outside got it. Of course, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to modify a cube table to fit commodiously over a litter pan, or maybe a wicker store would have a wicker chest that could be modified -- you see where I'm heading with this.
In addition, the following link:

advertises litter box containment furniture to suit all decors.
Hope you find something neat.

For a while we had 3 cats, and so had to set up an extra box. One box is in the closet of the room we use as an office. The other is tucked between the toilet and the wall.

I know a couple of people who put the box in a linen closet. They put a pet door into the closet door so the cat could have access but the closet door could be kept closed.
There are also decorative covers you can buy to put over the box. Here's an example of one:

Try to pick a place where there isn't a lot of foot traffic. Cats typically like it quiet near their litter box.
For what it's worth, I keep my cat box in my bedroom. I do this for two reasons. One, it is a quiet room and two, I know when I have to scoop the box right away! :-)

She need to adjust. Let her do so, taking as much time as she needs. Be kind, and give her lots of TLC, even if it has to be at a distance. Make sure she has a secure spot of her own. If your mom is okay with it, you could even put a little kitty bed under there for her. As long as she is eating and eliminating waste, she will be alright. This cat hasn't been in her new home for very long, just give her time to settle in.

Sometimes you can buy special things that look like a table that is actually a litter box underneath. You'd have to probably look online though because they are hard to find. I think I've seen them in one of those magazines you get on the airplane (Air Mall?).

i have a wall that divides the kitchen from the living room. There is a hole in it where the counter is. Under the counter (on the living room side) there is an indent (like where you could put bar stools). I put the litter box there.

I have the litterbox next to the toilet. I find that it's an appropriate place and out of the way. Easier to clean too.
