You have something seriously wrong with your PC. Without a lot more details nobody in this forum can assist you. I recommend taking your PC to a local independent certified computer store and have them do a diagnostic check, this should be a free service. They will be able to determine where your failure is and how to best correct it.

Let me guess - Windows XP.

Never shuts down properly - just pull the plug out

PS : Unless they are really ancient be carefully about deleting upgrades - your current "running"program may well go looking in them for certain files.

Not that it would cure any of the problems of XP anyway.
Had a unrequested update today and save the keyboard and mouse it "lost" all my other peripherals - scanner, printer, external hard drive, the lot - thanks Bill Gates.

Try deleting your browsing history, do a disc clean up and a defragmentaion (found in sart, all programmes, accessories, system tools) sometimes this helps. Deleting old programmes that you dont use, see what you have starting up when you put pc on and edit that list too.

Hope it helps

Ad-Aware SE
Spybot Search & Destroy
AVG anti-virus
Uninstall all of your browser add-ons
Run disk cleanup
Edit your startup files and delete those you don't need
Unplug any peripheral disk drives or flash drives
Off-load your vids, pics, and music to cd or dvd
Search thru your Add-Remove list for programs you didn't install yourself. Make sure you know what an item is before you delete it.
Run disk defrag

Have a look in Event Viewer to see if you are getting any errors. Click on Administrative tools in Control Panel.

Snap. Infuriating isn't it? I can get up, dressed and have a cup of tea while waiting to get on line. I've done all the disc cleaning and defragmenting, still slow as a snail.

If I were you, I would start again and format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. Sometimes thats the only way to get over slow boot problems.
