The knowledge is already here.
There are just a lot of people in this world that are still pretty uneducated.
It will take a few generations.
Right now, parents that are still in one of these cults are telling their children what to believe. But those children will receive a better education than their parents did. And that trend will continue until "religion" is a thing of the past.
It's really pretty amazing how quickly this is all coming to an end. The spread of knowledge right now is almost exponential.
But, regardless, we've still got basically the entire span of human history to combat. People have believed in "gods" since before we could speak.
That's a lot of catching up to do. And that's why, even though we already know the facts that disprove religion, some people simply don't want to hear them.

Oh, the mere little man in you. What do you not understand about God saying "I am Alpha and Omega?" (the beginning and the end)
A god hasn't died everytime mankind made a leap in technology or thoughts. There has always been just one God and One God only and God doesn't change. Zeus and Thor were no less than fallen angels disguised or manmade mythology of which there is much truth because of the fallen angels. God destroyed the first people because of the mixture of fallen angels and man and the creation of the Satyr by fallen angels. These were the giants in the earth in the Book of Genesis.
This is what will take you over - Jesus said in the latter days that it will be as it was in the days of Noah. Already man has created the mouse with the man's ear growing on its back. A simple Satyr of mythology. The fallen angels are among us and they are working their evil today. False religions have always been around because Satan creates them constantly to confuse and delude and deceive man.
If you need to know how to OVERCOME read the Bible and the King James Version because it is not bound (copyrighted). Get on your knees and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and change it.

You will never be able to "kill" the idea of a higher power. Some people need the concept of an afterlife where they will be granted untold riches and such for living a good live here(so wasnt supposed to come off as an insult, sorry if it did) Some people are so stubborn even when their roof is on fire they refuse to leave their bed (again sorry),and goverments would have to be totaly re-vamped as there is no single Goverment on this earth that is not based into religion of one kind or anouther.
Kill the idea of religion, and you kill humanity as we know it.That may or may not be a good thing. No more things but material items to fight for,no reason for people to behave and treat others with any sort of respect. There has been, and there always will be some sort of religion, human need it,its part of their make up,they have to believe in something, even atheists beleive in something.Human nature needs to fear something, and what is more scary than religion?

There is no way to prove God does not exist. The Bible doesn't say there is no life on other planets. So aliens can land in Times Square. The Bible never does say the Earth is flat..Hebrew word is the same as for pomegranate. they are round. SO.. You will never know a world free of religion in your life time! Are you willing to accept and be tolerant of other people? If not, how far would you go to be rid of them..Do you see any danger in the way you view most of the world.?? Would you have us all killed? Put in Camps?

False gods come and go. But Jehovah God is eternal. God is not just an idea as you so pompously suppose . God is a person. If you do not repent you will have to answer for these very words when you stand before God on judgment day. I am not telling you this out of hate but out of love. My heart grieves for your soul when I read how so flippantly you dismiss the one who created and loves you. The one who died on the cross for you. Now you have been warned , your blood is not on my hands. You and only you make the choice of where you will spend eternity. Choose wisely, choose Christ. No matter what you have said here, no matter what sins you have commited , no matter how awful you have been, Jesus is standing with arms wide open to receive you. Come to Christ , Merry Christmas !!!! <><

I think the need to believe in God is actually hard-wired into the human genome for about 95% of humans. It's some sort of self-protective device/response. A few of us lucky ones were spared of that burden, but we're the freaks, right? :) Nope; I think that until we can identify that gene and clip it OUT of our DNA strand, it will remain a predominant feature of human beings. That, or not until we can clone the 'atheist gene' (as yet undiscovered) and insert it in all developing embryos. Sadly, we're a century away from that. I do agree that discovering a superior life form to us would have a huge impact, as well as extending human life into infinity. Again, both are feats that are literally centuries away :( Wiping out God is gonna be harder than wiping out the predominant trait of brown eyes on this planet.

It wasn't technology that killed the other gods. Whichever religion had the most power at the time would simply make the other religions illegal (or kill its devotees).
I doubt religion will ever die. There are always going to be people afraid to make decisions so they hand their lives over to god and let him do all of the hard work. (Actually they still have to make the decisions, but if it doesn't work out they don't have to take any of the blame. They can just say that "god has other plans for me," and their mates will accept that excuse because they know jolly well that they will have to use it themselves one day).

You seem to have religion and God joined at the hip.
Anyone who thinks can see the problematic nature of religion with it's endless variety of conflicting dogmatic flavors.
God is a very different thing to prove or disprove.
Religion is just a lie about God. It does not prove or disprove Her existence.
Just because religion tells us conflicting lies about God does not make Her any less real.
Love and blessings Don

The odds of life coming out of random shuffling of amino acids (tested in the 1980s) is 1 in ten to the 40,000 power.
That's a 1 followed by 40,000 zeros.
The chances are almost impossibly high. There's a God, alright.

Don't think humanity is ready to forget religion quite yet.
As to what technology would take, who knows, discovery of eternal life is a possibility.
Another possibility would be the incontrovertible proof that there is life in other worlds.
Another possibility, the answer to the evolution creation issue one way or another.
Regardless of whatever technology anyone might think of, religion is here to stay, face the reality and choose what you wish, but a reality, a fact cannot be hidden with wishful thinking.
