maybe i shouldn't ask this question here in this section but since all the Turkish ppl are hangin on here i may ask?
i'm talkin bout the last election and new laws etc. is Turkey really changing or is it just what the newspapers say? i live in the UK so i don't know much bout what's really goin on. but i keep hearin that everyday new things are happenin. are religious beliefs actin strongly nowadays? cause i heard lots of things bout Islam being more prepotent than ever etc. excuse my curiosity but who can know better than the ppl in Turkey? :-)

No country is remaining the same. I mean, Mağribi rebellion in France? Who would imagine?

The thing is, religion has become too apparent lately. And not just here, too. Think about the rise in Christian rhetoric in USA. Think about the Crusader jerseys of Inter:

We, the ordinary citizens, just want peace and welfare. Warmongers and power seeking lords want otherwise though. Que sera sera, what will be will be. :)

Danger was always there. We just keep an eye on it and enjoy ourselves. :D

Hmmm. I don think so. Do u see france fans goin ard talking bad about italian players? Yes. It happened after the world cup. But not now. Wont u just grow up? It happened so long ago. And yet u are stil talking about it. Don u find it tiring? Italy is not the champion. Brazil won 5 world cups. So it will go to Brazil. If u wan to compare, there's lot to compare. If Italy was great, they wont lost to France during the euro 2008 qualifier. Which means that Italy is not consistant at all. Winning the world cup is just a name. But deep in our heart, we know who is the real champion. So stop bragging ard and grow up.

The Turkish Parliament has passed some important reforms to join the EU, but Turkey has a long way to go.

The army must give up its super powers (political analysts say the army rules the country), violation of human righst especially for minorities, women and prisoners is a huge issue in Turkey and not to ignore the political Cyprus issue. Turkish troops occupy since 1974, 37% of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus which became a member of the EU in May 2004.

Today the EU leaders implied that Turkey may not even join the EU and if it joins, this will happen after 2020.

I agree with your question. Is Turkey really changing? The future will show.

I agree with Blunt I-run, Yes Turkey is changing like most counties in the world. But it won't turn into a religious country. After all we have millions of secular and modern people on our side. A minority won't be able to change our way of life.

what is surprising is that Turkey an Muslim nation is absolutely dying to join the European Union (though I'm not sure why)...but any way's I would say yes ...Turkeys Parliament has passed many reforms to bring that nation closer to a western style system of government. Are they changing? Yes...slowly but surely. Kudos to Turkey so far the only advanced Arab nation ever seen.
