Heidelberg is Headquarters for US Army and 7th Army Europe. As a headquarters, when women soldiers come through to be assigned duty stations, they keep the best looking women and send the others out to the field. You would be near the Black Forest, Baden Baden, Armed Forces Recreation Center in Garmish is near by and so in Munich. Been there, done that.
Thanks for serving our country, be safe.

Many of the posts in Germany have been closed and many more are set to close. But it really depends on your MOS as to where the best is. After 4 tours in Germany i liked Worms Germany best with the Stuttgart area coming in a close second.
Any where you are in Germany you are only hours away from anywhere else. If you get your license and a car Drive the Alpine Strasse and make sure to visit all 3 of Mad King Ludwig's Castles. The first one is known as the Disneyland Castle because Walt Disney got his original Ideas from it. Then there's the Linderhof and The Palace on the Island Herren Cheimsee.
Most of all if you go enjoy the country.
And Thank you for your service

I spent 3 years in Karlshruhe, which is in a valley , 30 minutes south of Heidlberg, 45 minutes north of the Black forest, 1 hour from Baden Baden (germany's las vegas) , 2 hours from Munich (please go to octoberfest you will love it) and 15 minutes from France,.
It snowed once in 3 years, was only 1/2 an inch and in february we were wearing jeans and t-shirts! Nice place to be stationed!!!

I'm sure someone must be, but it's only a little after 2:00 pm. Not much to do in that neck of the woods, I imagine.

The best posts are always where the General is. But then you have to deal with being stationed with the General.

Wurzburg, Kitzingen and Schweinfurt are nice, stay away from Storck barracks in Illesheim- they are way out in the sticks
