I married in middle of year 2007 (May 2007), but i forgot to send updated W4 form to my employer, because of which more tax was withheld. What do i have to do to get tax excemptions from may 2007 when my status changed from single to married. Can I send a new W4 to my employer in Dec 2007 and still claim benefits since May 2007.

File the tax retun as Married Joint. The fact that you didn't change the w-4 during the year, simply means that you may be able to recieve a larger refund when you file. Best thing I would suggest is that you take your last December check stub and your spouses as well, to your local H&R block and find out the
"guesstimate" of your refund. There are a few options for filing like this in addition to Married/Joint, you can also file as head of household and bumb the refund a little higher in your favor.
Congratulations!

Yes.

Just fill out a new W4 for next year and then file for your 2007 taxes as a marries couple. If you overpaid you will get the money back.

No, you can't back-date a W-4. Just update it now. It doesn't change the final amount of tax you owe - just means you'll get a larger refund on your return.

You won't get the money in your paycheck retroactively, but if you overpaid, you'll get the extra refunded when you file your tax return.
