Daily, I read of some atrocity committed in the name of Christianity. I always get on here and read about how "true Christians" wouldn't do this. The message of the Bible is "twisted."
Have you considered that the message of the Bible hasn't been "twisted" by these people? Have you considered that, in fact, you are the ones who have twisted the Bible's meaning by claiming Christianity is about love and the Golden Rule?

Have you considered that the message of the Bible isn't about love, but about domination?

Maybe, you should consider that your desire to be a good person has blinded you, and led you to endorse a belief system that you wouldn't endorse if you fully understood its history.

The message of Christianity has changed to keep up with current ethics. True Christians, i.e. ones who take the Bible literally, burn "witches," keep slaves and murder their own children for disobedience.

Where in the Bible is the Golden Rule?
The burden of proof is on you.

So, the Golden Rule, where is it?

Satan? Or is it the bogeyman?

How about all the passages that condone slavery? How about the passages that talk about killing your children, you know, like Job, among others.

So, I guess you all haven't examined your beliefs.

Regarding domination, let's see, um, Native American's, the Crusades, our continuing interference with 3rd world countries, the current situation in the middle east, 2000 years of female servitude...

Yeah, I have problems, you know, seeing the world as it is. I guess if I believed in a book full of contradicitions and meaningless fables I would stop having problems?

People, I read, I listen; you can try to backtrack and re-label fellow believers who embarrass you, but we all know your beliefs have no legs, and that you supported these fanatics until they hurt your movement.

Religion always resorts to violence and censorship. Hopefully, some of you will see this.

where in the bible does it talk about how we should have slaves, burn witches or murder? in fact the bible sternly prohibts these things! they are in the ten comandments that GOD told moses to write! christianity is about being christ-like, that means following the 10 comandments and all in all being a good person but most importantly have a relationship with God. how do you explain the predictions people made? further more the predictions that came true?! the bible is a book of life lessons, historical markings, and spiritual upliftin among other things as well. if someone tells you that your going to heaven if you live the life God wants you to live, and you actually live that life and there ends up to be no heaven then what do you have to regret? you lived a great life. but then the people who dont believ that and there really is a heaven and hell then how are they going to feel when they end up in hell? think that thier oppinions will change? God is real, and the word in the bible is real. christianity is real and so is the beliefs that christinas follow and believ in. religion isnt the book you read or the things you believe. its your heart and you have no right to judge any ones heart, only God has that right and there will be a time when he judges every ones heart, how will your be jidged? will you have to live through the tribulation? do you even know the begining of that? look it up, it will happen and you should prepre yourself for whats to come for yourself.

everything you claim is from the old testament. Although it is an important part of the bible and shapes our beliefs, it is somewhat flawed for us being that we no longer live in those times. The age of reason has come to stay thanks to Christ. If you take one thing from the old testament let it be that our God is a loving God, but do not cross him. He warns of this with several examples. The golden rule is stated in the bible under the great commandment when Jesus speaks to his apostles. Faith eliminates burden of proof, it eliminates burden. Try as you might the faithful will not feel a need to find out why, they just know.

I have read the Bible and know the history of Christianity. Not all who claim to be Christians have 100% souled out to Christ. Unfortunately, some of those people have become fanatics and insist that their beleifs are the only true way to God and eternity in heaven. The crusades are a perfect example of that point.

I do not burn witches nor have I killed my children for disobedience. I have no slaves nor do I want any.

As for the Golden Rule, Jesus teaches that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Until people come to fully understand that your neighbor is every single person you will ever come in contact with, there will continue to be factions and fanatics that will "twist" the Bible to fit their personal feelings and beliefs.

Irish, I must beg to differ with you. The OT is not flawed. The NT says ALL scripture is inspired. So what scripture was that referring to? The OT. You sound like a dispensationalist. Jesus quoted Moses more than any other person was quoted by any other person in the Bible.

To the original poster:

Matthew 7:9-12

Luke 6:27-31

Many religions have some version of the "Golden Rule" which is basically to treat others as you want to be treated; to love your neighbor and give him a break when he does you wrong, because surely you yourself will also one day offend someone and want them to overlook your mistake.

In Judaism, this is a command in Deuteronomy, " .... love your neighbor as yourself ... " which Jesus reiterated later during His ministry on earth.

The reason you don't understand this yet is because you just don't know God yet. What if I introduced you to my husband and you don't like him .. and you think, "why in the heck is she married to that jerk?" Well, you just don't know him like I do. If you did, you'd understand why I loved him.

It is the same with God. I love Him, and the reason you don't is because you just don't know him like I do. But you could if you wanted to.

Give me one current atrocity that happened this week in the name of christianity.

Matthew 7:12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophtets."

The Law and the Prophets = The Old Testament

the golden rule is in the gospel Matthew I just can't remember what verse it is. You are really wrong... many Christians do use Christianity as an excuse to do things they shouldn't but the ones who truly have faith in God do the right thing as best they can.

No one is perfect and true Christians believe that by saying they are a Christian, they are admitting that they are imperfect.

complete kill count huge sort in the OT particularly would be 2,476,633 yet Christianity isn't based on the OT.... it extremely is predicated on the words of Christ in the NT. complete kill count sort of Christians in the NT: 0. The OT is the story of one human beings's boost in faith and archives. It starts with an particularly primitive image of God... a God who replaced into one in all the yet replaced into "the main intense God" and whom replaced into to be feared because of the fact of His superb would desire to. by utilising the top of the OT it has progressed to the have faith in one God who seeks and provides love. This boost could be seen a ways extra elementary in case you examine the books in the order wherein they have been written extremely than their order they are got here upon in the Bible. Christ arrived good at that factor and placed a rocket p.c.. on the belief of love. it extremely is the OT psalmist approximately 1000 years earlier Christ who writes "the concern of the Lord is the beginning up of understanding." John, although, writes around 70 advert "In love there could be no concern, extremely concern is pushed out by utilising proper love; because of the fact to concern is to assume punishment, and every physique who's afraid remains imperfect in Love. we are to love then, because of the fact He enjoyed us first." (1Jn 4:18-19). do no longer confuse Christianity with historic Judaism.

I have considered it. But on the whole - there are exceptions - I find those that are Christians are more loving, caring and politer people that those who aren't.

Jesus said love thy God and love thy neighbor. He condensed everything into those 2 statements.

True Christian's do not condone and justify sin and they follow these 2 statements by Jesus.
