Both - get a Eurail pass and you can travel all over Europe via the train system.

They're really efficient and all of your travel will be first class.

It's a great way to get around and you can even take a ferry to Greece or Ireland if you like. (small extra fee)

Paris is a city and Italy is a country so this is not a fair comparsion. Depending on how long you will be on vacation possibly you could go to both France and Italy for a tour. The distances are so very close. You can spend an entire week in Paris and still not see many of the sights. I love Paris. But Italy is awesome as well. I've been to Italy but not to Rome which would probably be equally as nice as Paris. Must see sights in Paris are the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, boat tour of the Seine River, riding the Paris metro, Moulin Rouge show, and The Palace of Versailles 40 minutes outside of Paris. I've seen all these sights and highly recommend them to you if you make it to fabulous Paris.

Go to Italy, and then get a car and drive for a few hours to Slovenia. I'm here right now and was here over the summer. This country seriously knows how to party. And the beer is AMAZING.

You should go to Paris and then take a tour or rent a car and go to Italy. I might be doing that this summer.

lucky you getting to choose!
i went to italy in april of this year, and it was absolutely beautiful.
it depends on what you want to do. walking around and seeing the shops (and not to mention the TONS of graffiti) was nice.
awesome weather too.

i'm going to france in april of 2009, and i cant wait to see all the history there.

unless you're a history geek like me, then Italy.

why Paris and not France ? making a choice between PAris and Italy means nothing...
anyway, I don't like Paris so... you can choose between france and italy... depend on what you want to see, to hear, to eat, to feel... it's really different.

as an italian, i suggest you to come here...we have the best cuisine ever and every square centimeter of our land is 100% worth seeing and we are very pleasant to other people. Florence is the city i suggest you to go and Venice as second.
