Physical abuse: Beating, hitting, kicking, punching, burning, etc. Is done with the intent to harm and cause temporary or lasting pain and damage.
Mental/emotional abuse: Name calling, isolation or seclusion, scapegoating, extreme favouritism among siblings, withholding affection, verbally insulting or abusing the child.
Sexual abuse: Any and all sexual contact between an adult and a minor regardless of consent. Eg, if a 12 year old verbally 'consents' to sexual activity with a 30 year old, it's still sexual abuse.
Neglect: Failing to meet the basic needs of a child: Food, shelter, health care, clothing and hygiene.
