I asked a question about global warming, and if people think the media is making it out to be worse than it is. I got some great answers on both side of the debate. But then, someone has to stick their comments in, saying that I was being naive to think that humans have nothing to do with it. I will reiterate my position again. And this time, PLEASE READ!
I believe global warming exists, but I believe it to be a naturally occuring process. PLEASE! Do not hit the 'Answer' button yet! Now, because I believe that, does not mean I believe humans have nothing to do with it. With our nasty-assed polluting ways, I believe we ARE causing the process to happen FASTER than it should, and by making better choices as a species, we can SLOW the rate of warming down.
Now, for those who want to bash me, go right ahead, but before you do, read the darned question, and also my opinion, BEFORE telling me that I'm "naive if I think humans have nothing to do with it"! Thank you!

Thanks, guys! My frustration isn't towards everyone involved in this topic, but only to those who insist on belittling those of us who don't buy into the whole 'global warming is caused solely by humans' propoganda.

Doug, I don't know about where you're from, but here in Canada we already use hemp to make clothing and things of that nature. I don't agree that legalizing it for drug purposes is a good thing, though. That said, ALL plants breathe CO2 and give off O2 as a byproduct, not just hemp.

Oh, we also use hemp as a food source, too. I've purchased hemp seeds to use on my cereal in the mornings. There's also yummy chocolate bars made with hemp seeds! Delish!

Richard, how can you doubt it's a natural process? The Earth goes through regular cycles of warming and cooling. We know there was an ice age as recent as 10 - 15000 years ago. And before that, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, we knew it must have been warmer than that, as dinosaurs were reptilian and cold-blooded. I think we're in for a warmer period yet, but then another ice age will come upon us.

Dr Jello - lol - politics? No way! Too much effort to try and please everyone. I'm not trying to find a compromise in this at all, but rather voicing my own opinion. Not all things are black and white. There are indeed many 'grey' areas in the world. Aside from whether or not changing our polluting ways would slow the process down, it would still benefit us, and every other living thing. Pollution is bad in any case, and I think we all should strive to make our world a better place to live.

To a point, I agree with you. Global warming IS natural and WILL continue to happen. I think, as a people, we will continue to point our fingers at everyone else and scream and yell that the problem is someone else's, not ours as we desperately try to slow down something that we can never hope to stop (nor, probably, should we stop).
I think our money, time and efforts as a people (not as individuals...I could preach on and on about individual stewardship of the earth...those who scream the loudest about what everyone else should do don't seem to be the ones who ARE being good stewards of the earth. Talk is cheap.) should be spent on planning how we should adapt to this inevitable occurrence.
Cities need to be moved gradually away from the seas. Migration is going to be necessary and on a large scale as whole cities, and in some cases countries WILL be underwater.
Growing seasons need to be adapted and water planning needs to be put into long term affect for some areas. Emergency procedures for changes in weather need to be decided and implemented.
Currently, we are wasting our time. We will need to adapt (like any other species) or many will die off. We need to accept the natural cycle of the Earth and allow her to go through it. We can't change her to suit our needs.
Oh, and in answer to your very first question...they can read the complete question but they chose not to because they are just too dang long. Get to the point sooner, ask only one question and you won't get such a mixed bag. Don't continue to argue your point (it's not a debate forum) and then everyone will be happy.

There is a flaw in your question. CO2 is a natural gas produced by all living things, the pollution that man causes is CO Carbon MONOXIDE not DIOXIDE (co2). Cars, trucks, planes, etc Create CO. So why not regulate that instead of what comes out of your month? If we were to revert back to live like cave man, the Earth would still warm and cool. So it kind of puts holes in your statement. "If naturally rising and falling CO2 levels are responsible for earth's natural warming and cooling cycles, then it would make sense that artificially raising the CO2 levels would lead to artificial warming, on top of the natural warming cycle, right" Question is why do you believe the false science behind your argument?

Yeah, i agree with you completely, Global warming is undoubtedly a natural phenomenon - it has happened many times in the past, as evidence from ancient ice cores and other studies show.
Some people attribute the greatest mass extinction of all time - the Permian; with roughly 90% of all species becoming extinct - to Global warming and associated effects.
The global levels of greenhouse gasses are constantly fluctuating, and indeed, without them the earth would be uninhabitable with average temperatures being roughly 33'C lower.
What humans are doing is accelerating natural change, and whilst there is little doubt the Earth will eventually recover (it's had far worse) it is definitely bad news for mankind and the vast majority of species alive today, which is why we must do all that we can to prevent it.

Actually, I agree with you completely. I do think that the warming and cooling of Earth is part of a natural cycle. Earth has actually had a tropical climate for most of its history, and we're currently in an interglacial period, which is not as cold as an ice age, but not as hot as the "norm" either. I also think that the current warming trend is being accelerated by human activity, and that we should do what we can to slow down this effect because a warmer Earth will be bad for our species.

Global warming is a scientific phenomenon. In order to understand it fully, and to discuss it intelligently, it really must be approanced from a scientific standpoint.
We hear often of how many scientists adhere to the theory of man-made global warming. But the subject is not up for a vote! Science cannot be voted on!! If there are doubts about a scientific theory, then the theory is UNPROVEN. That's the way science works.
Would you administer medicines to your child if a "concensus" of scientists reported they were safe? Of course not! You would expect its safety to be proven. So why do we launch ourselves and our neighbors into crisis mode when the temperature gets above average?? (I have a theory about it, but it's for another time).
Be thoughtful, be intelligent, research, seek alternative viewpoints, educate yourself.
Global warming is not impacting us in a negative way. The emotion and the policital agendas attached to it may be far more harmful.

I'm not sure what the question is, but here's the answer to so many of the world's problems: Legalize hemp. F#$K the corporations and their profits upon which we'd infringe. We can make heating oil, food and clothing out of it. Bonus!: it takes in CO2 and produces oxygen. What a concept! Who can possibly argue against this? I can't wait.

Hay ya'll!! I just a stupid hick. I gonna solve global warming right now! Elect a democrat prez!!!!!!!!
Remember all the homeless stories during the Reagan/Bush years? Well when Clinton was elected all the homeless disappeared.
Now this is not going to go away until the U.S.A. makes it clear that we are not going to give billions for our carbon off sets. Make no mistake. This is about MONEY.
If there was money to be made off the homeless like this hoax issue we'd still be hearing about them on the front page of every news paper in America.
Let me ask this? How did Billary solve the homeless problem? He didn't? So why did they disappear? This issue too will disapear when all the suckers are played out.

I think the environmentalists may be shooting themselves in the foot by putting the doomsday scenarios out there. It reminds me of the "Reefer Madness" panic of the 1950s. When people found out that they wouldn't go insane from smoking one joint, people assumed cannabis was completely benign.
At this point, either there has to be some huge enviromental catastrophe or else the global warming lobby is going to look like Chicken Little. If it's the first scenario we are all dead, if it's the second scenario the sensible things that could be done to improve the enviorment will lose credibility.
