"to be reckoned with" usually is part of the phrase "a force to be reckoned with"

they're a force to be dealt with.. it tells you that something or someone is in a position of power or strength and usually implies some sort of competition is involved..

like if you say that a boxer is a force to be reckoned with, you're saying that his opponents are going to have a tough time beating him..

so in your example, the band is in competition with other bands..
