"Police in southern India are hunting for two men who attacked a Hindu holy man, cut off his right leg and then made off with it.

The 80-year-old holy man, Yanadi Kondaiah, claimed to have healing powers in the leg."

Here's the story on the BBC website:

Difficult to know what to say, isn't it? Although frankly, it's really only a blip on the graph of religious violence.

I don't have any healing powers in my legs, or any other part of my body.

Just wanted that on the record.

Made me chuckle and you got a star :) Here's one that made me smile too: LIPSTICK IN SCHOOL According to a news report, a certain private school in TARINGA, New Zealand was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Priceless! Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are teachers......and then there are educators

I agree with Mr. Smiley. It's sad that people are so desperate for spiritual healing that they think that if the steal some poor old holy man's leg, they'll find the healing they need.

The mind boggles at the depths of insanity to which religious belief can bring you.

As an atheist, the only thing that brings me to despair is this insanity. To some extent, I see it every day.

I heard this on the radio this morning. Unbelievable! I'm guessing by now they've figured out that his leg doesn't have any mystical powers.

And people say catholics are superstitious! lol

THAT IS SO HORRIBLE!

I don't believe in healing powers, but to cut off someone's leg because you believe it might heal you if you touch it is so brutal and disgusting. Humans can be such animals. Poor man, they left him in the desert to bleed to death because of a superstition.
