They smell good, and they look good but I don't know if I should use them in my white chocolate/macademia nut cookies.

That expiration date does not mean that things automatically go bad on that date, just that they are best if used before that date. Manufacturers usually set these so that there is plenty of time after the date during which the product will still be usable.

I would taste the nuts. As long as they do not taste sour or rancid - and as long as the can or jar is still firmly sealed with no dents or bulges anywhere - then I would go ahead and use them.

I'd say if they aren't rancid then they're probably fine.
