I recently had a terrible ear infection for weeks as well. I was perscribed ear drops and two courses of antibiotics. What really helped was sinus spray with cortisone (perscription) The doc said it would enlarge my sinus passages so that the fluid in my ears would drain more easily. This worked wonderful for me. It still took time, but relief finally came.
I hope you get better soon!

After you finish your course of antibiotics, return to the doctor. Some excess fluid might be normal for a while even after the infection is gone, but the doctor can tell whether the infection has been completely killed. Best wishes.

I hear your pain (sorry ;-)
I had an ear infection once (surfing polluted water).
It was 3 weeks before it cleared. The antibiotics did the trick. You have to ensure that you take the entire course that is prescribed to you....
But dont worry about it, it is only a small ailment that your body will overcome with the correct medication.

I presume your doctor took a swab to make sure he prescribed the correct antibiotic. If the swelling and pain are gone, then it's just a matter of being patient till it's totally healed. That said, if it's still discharging in a week, go back to your doctor.

My son is prone to ear infections, we always have to get the shot to knock it out. Sometimes this goes on for a month at a time....so just keep in touch with the Doc. and you should be fine.
