Does anyone know the difference between single entry visa and a multiple entry visa?

I m applying for a visa for the schengen countries and to egypt as well but i don't clearly understand how this entry thingy works. Can anyone please give me a very sensible advise?

Thank you.

"Single Entry" means just that ... once you leave the country (or region, in the case of a Schengen visa), your visa becomes invalid ... even if you do so before the end date shown on the visa.

For example, having a single-entry 6-month tourist visa to Italy that begins on 01 November 2007 means you have to leave by 30 April 2008. If you choose to leave in February, that's the end of your visa's validity.

"Multiple Entry" means just that ... you can enter/exit as many times as you want, up until the end date for the visa issued. In the above example, that means you could come and go as you please betweeen 01 Nov 2007 and 30 April 2008. The only constraint is that you'd have to exit (for the final time) on or before 30 April.

For a Schengen visa, you can move directly from one Schengen country to another without invalidating your visa ... but once you travel to a non-Schengen country (even if it's only a stop-over between two other countries), your "single entry" visa would expire.

Single entry means that the visa is only valid for one entry to the country unlike the visa with multiple entries wherein the passport holder can enter the country as many times before the expiration of the visa.
