My wisdom tooth has developed recently and for a few months a hole in the wisdom tooth has grown. I'm not talking about the hole where the wisdom tooth has been taken out I'm talking about an actual hole in the wisdom tooth. I would go to the dentist but, I don't have insurance and I'm too poor. The hole in the wisdom tooth produced a throbbing pain whenever I ate food, and food would get stuck on the hole and I wouldn't be able to take it out. Today, I did a sucking motion you know where you suck on the bottom of your teeth to get food unstuck while your eating or done eating, after I did the motion excruciating pain came from the wisdom tooth hole. I brushed my teeth and took a look at the hole and it is now pretty big, deep and kind of a white-ish gray color. It's completely fine if I leave it alone but, if I touch the hole with my tongue even in the slightest touch a sharp pain comes. Going to the dentist is not an option right now I can't afford it I'm only 18 living on my own-

I can barely afford rent and all my other fixed expenses. Is this a serious problem? Should I seek dental/medical help immediately, or can I just leave it alone for now until I have enough money to visit the dentist?

You have a cavity which happens when bacterial colonies form and attack the tooth enamel. It sounds like the tooth nerve is exposed and that is what is causing the pain. Instead of having it filled, you should have it extracted before it gets abscessed, which can be very painful and makes you quite ill. My dentist told me that wisdom teeth are too far in the back to keep properly clean and should be removed as soon as all of them grow in.

It sounds like you have a cavity. If you are in that much pain I think you should seek dental help. I think many dentists will negotiate a rate with you if they see that you don't have insurance. Also, you can find out if there are any dentists in your area that do pro bono or inexpensive work for people in your situation. You can also go to an emergency room; they can't refuse to treat you there (although you will have to pay).

I found that rinsing with water works just fine. I kind of sucked in the water to make a vacuum (don't fill your mouth as much as you can). Then I swished it around and inflated my cheeks and "pulled" the water back through my teeth (bring my lips forward) to almost pull the stuff out of the holes. You'll feel the pull. There's not much you can do to prevent it from getting in there, but I did find that using the water worked just fine. Mouthwash agitates the wounds, and toothpicks can make more damage.
