It's not "fat" stomachs you idiot!
Those kids are bloated! They have huge parasitic worms sitting in their stomachs because of the poor sanitary conditions in which they live. Often times too, their blood composition is so unbalanced that their blood plasma becomes thin and travels out of their organs and veins to collect into their peritoneal cavity (I'm not an expert... there's a more complex explanation). And the malnutrition causes the liver to swell like crazy I've heard.
ps: Don't call them fat! They aren't! Americans are FAT!

In blood plasma, the dissolved compounds have an osmotic pressure. The difference between the osmotic pressure exerted by plasma proteins (colloidal osmotic pressure) in blood plasma and that exerted by tissue fluid proteins is called the oncotic pressure. Because large plasma proteins cannot easily cross through the capillary walls, their effect on the osmotic pressure of the capillary interiors will, to some extent, balance out the tendency for fluid to leak out of the capillaries. In conditions where plasma proteins are reduced, e.g. from being lost in the urine (proteinuria) or from malnutrition, the result of the too low oncotic pressure can be edema – excess fluid buildup in the tissues.

Starving children have fat tummies because of protein deficiency - called Kwashiokor which decreases the amount of albumin in their blood. Albumin is needed to maintain the osmotic pressure of the blood, that is, it's tendency to hold water. Lack of albumin allows more fluid to pool in the tissues and in the body cavities, especially the abdomen.

I want whoever posted this question or however answered this in a joking matter to see a video called "Invisible children."
I highly doubt you will ever think of this as humorous after watching the video.

One of the roles of protein in our bodies is to maintain fluid balance, which means we normally don't get bloated (oedema) with fluid. Children who don't get enough protein (due to malnutrition or starvation) can't maintain proper fluid balance- hence bloating.
Why is this question in Jokes and Riddles?? Nothing funny about starving children....

Because they lack vitamins (especially vitamin C) and are stricken with parasites. The distended tummies are all bloat. If you've ever seen a puppy or a kitten with worms, you know how bloated they look. Any nutrients from food are taken up by the parasites.

When your tummy doesn't know when its next meal will come it stores all it can as fat, and leaves you all bloated. I imagine its very uncomfortable actually.
Why is this on jokes and riddles? It's a pretty bad joke.
