He is the two extremes at the same time. He is innocent as well as fierce. Shiva is not limited to the personal characteristics as he is given in many images and can transcend all attributes. Hindus believe that God can transcend all personal characteristics yet can also have personal characteristics for the grace of the embodied human devotee. Personal characteristics are a way for the devotee to focus on God. Hindus believe that if we can hear the voice of God in the way Judaeo-Christian religions believe that God communicates, then it is not neccessarily wrong to view a form of God so long as it is recognized that God is not limited to a particular form. Shiva is aadi (without beginning/birth) and ananta (without end/death).

As Nataraja, Shiva is the Lord of the Dance, and also symbolizes the dance of the Universe/Nature, with all its delicately balanced heavenly bodies and natural laws which complement and balance each other. At times, he is also symbolized as doing his great dance of destruction, called Taandav (Pronounced with a soft 't' and a hard 'd'), at the time of pralaya, or dissolution of the universe. Although he is defined as a destroyer (or rather recreator), Siva, along with Vishnu, is considered the most benevolent God. One of his names is Aashutosh, he who is easy to please, or, he who gives a lot in return for a little.

Siva, originally, no doubt, a solar deity, is frequently invoked, as the lord of nourishment, to bestow food, wealth and other blessings. He is once, jointly with Soma, called the progenitor of heaven and earth, and is connected with the marriage ceremony, where he is asked to lead the bride to the bridegroom and make her prosperous (civatama).

Aum Namah Shivay.

Krishna and Shiva are two Personalities of the same Godhead and not opposed realities. However, the taste of the relationship is different: Krishna is more demanding, while Shiva is more compassionate. At a superficial level it may seem that Krishna bhakti is simpler and Shiva is more intimidating, but if you go deeper you will find out that it is actually the contrary. The good news is that we can get the blessings of Shiva to access Krishna, too, so we don’t need to be “cut off” from any love :-).

Friend,

Who does not love SHIVA, the auspicious and the Ultimate Bliss.

Several members have given already good answers and my answer may be of no value before them.

I love Shiva for so many reasons.

You observe the Shiva and Parvati and the family members Ganesha and Shanmukha. You also observe the vaahanas of them and ornaments on them.

Ganesha sits on a Mouse and Shanmukha on Peacock. They are not Friends (the vaahanaas). And Shiva has snakes around the neck and Peacock is the grand enemy to Snakes.

Shiva sits on Vrishabham or Nandi and Parvati on Lion (Simham). Both are enemies.

Shiva has Kala kuuta Visham at his throat (A deadly poison)
And on his head he has crescent moon (Chandra vanka) which showers nectar , the opposite of Poison.

On the fore head Shiva has the third Eye which is capable of burning all the worlds. And on the head of Shiva is The Ganges (water ) which quenches the fire.

You can observe so many opposites in the one family. But still all are friendly and move amicably.

We have to see and learn how to balance the evil in us and nullify it with the good things that are in us only.

If we carefully observe Shiva , we learn this and .He is the MASTER .

SATYAM.......SHIVAM......SUNDARAM.

SOHAM ..SHIVIHAM...so declare scriptures.

When such is the beauty of Shiva , who does not love HIM.

So I LOVE HIM.

What is there not to love in Shiva. Unfortunately Shiva temples are in disrepairs in South India.

Shiva is referred to as 'the good one' or the 'auspicious one'. Shiva - Rudra is considered to be the destroyer of evil and sorrow. Shiva - Shankara is the doer of good. Shiva is 'tri netra' or three eyed, and is 'neela kantha' - blue necked (having consumed poison to save the world from destruction. Shiva - Nataraja is the Divine Cosmic Dancer. Shiva - Ardhanareeswara is both man and woman.

He is both static and dynamic and is both creator and destroyer. He is the oldest and the youngest, he is the eternal youth as well as the infant. He is the source of fertility in all living beings. He has gentle as well as fierce forms. Shiva is the greatest of renouncer as well as the ideal lover. He destroys evil and protects good. He bestows prosperity on worshipers although he is austere. He is omnipresent and resides in everyone as pure consciousness.

Shiva is inseparable from Shakti - Parvati the daughter of Himavaan - Haimavati. There is no Shiva without Shakti and no Shakti without Shiva, the two are one - or the absolute state of being - consciousness and bliss.

Shiva is eternal change which is happening in this Universe, whether you want it or not! So there is no option of not loving Shiva. Even if you don't love Shiva, Shiva will love you and embrace you!

Shiva was a great dancer, Yogi and supreme expounder of wisdom of Adhyatam/Spiritulism. Shiva has given us so many scriptures, out of which "Vijyan Bharav Tantra" and "Shiva Samhita" are most profound!

Snakes of objects can not harm Shiva. Ganga of eternal knowledge is flowing from his head. Mesmerizes me!

Yes because he is the Greatest Vaisnava. Krishna love lord Shiva. I love Him as Gopeshwara. When he wanted to join Krishna and the Gopies in the Rasa Dance and He could not in the mood and form he was in. So he appeared like a gopi to join in the Rasa dance.

Sir, Love is a state of mind. It doesn't differentiate between two receivers. Just like sunlight. It doesn't say that i'll fall on such and such things. If you love you do not see who is on the receiving end. like fragrance of a flower. All are same.
When you ask a reason for love it becomes a bargain. and where there is bargain there is a trade. And a trade can not be love. It should be unconditional

My forefathers are worshipers Lord Shiva. It continues now.
My Grandpa gave me an ancient 'DEVANGA PURANA' ( partly eaten by white ants) It says many aspects of Shiva & Devanga Muni offeres Shiva cotton cloth to wear (By seeing him naked)& Shiva accepted it. They are flourishing now.
Shiva may be a God of destruction (reformer) but he sustains His devotees.

Siva does NOT mean death at all--.Only ignorant people of Vedham and Sanskrit language write or talk like that or deliberately who want to bash Lord GodSiva Sivam means Mangalam= Benevolence. Siva means benevolent.

"Sivam, Sivakaram,Shaantham,Sivaathmaanam, Sivotthamam,Siva marga Pranethaaram,Pranathosmi SadhaaSivam."

Sivam=verily the embodiment of mangalam(benevolence)--Sivakaram=the doer of mangalam(Benevolent)---Shaantham= Peace loving /Serene /poised /calm /quite /
Anam= activator---Aathmaa= of the the individual soul(person)-Sivam=to become benevolent-----Siva+ Uttamam =Sivotthamam=the Best among the benevolent (Vishnu, Brahma, Indra etc)----Siva Maarga=the follwers of Siva's Path(devotees)--Pranethaaram= Lord God Sivatakes care of their welfare(Yoga Kshemam Vahaamyaham) ---Sadhaasivam=always the Mangalakaari(most benevolent) --to that lord -God-Siva---Pranathosmi=My prostrations-my salutations -My respect-Reverence.

The maximum praise (Text) in Vedham(Authentic God "Revealed" Religious Litreature) is for Lord God Siva Only.Trisathi is Only for God Siva in Vedham---For other forms (Vishnu,Devi and all that ) Trisathi is only in Smrithis(Man Made Rreligious Texts)--IT CAN NOT BE DISPUTED BY ANYBODY WITH PROOF FROM VEDHAM-very,very, very, very little is mentoned about Vishnu and Shakthi(Sookthams).--Names of Brahma ,Raama Krishna, and all are NOT AT ALL FOUND IN VEDHAM.They are NOT Vedha Purushaas.at all. They are just Puraana Purushaas(Mythological)
Om Namaha Sivaaya(Panchhaksharam)
