I got my left-bottom wisdom tooth removed (because my dentist wanted to take them out separately) about 10 hours ago, and I think it's still bleeding! I can taste the blood when I swallow. Is this normal?

Also, it HURTS to swallow. When I swallow, the left side (same side as tooth) hurts.

And my dentist prescribed Tylenol for me. Can I just go to the pharmacy and buy a stronger pain killer? Or should I just stick with the ones my dentist gave me?

THANKS!

You need a blood clot in the area that your tooth was to heal properly. In your mouth, the blood clot could be there for a weeks. So, I wouldn't worry about it.

For pain management I would recommend Myprodyl. You can get it OTC. I used it when I broke my arm and also when I had my wisdom teeth out.

It's normal to bleed after having yoru wisdom teeth out. However, it's not normal if the blood is spurting out. Then you need to go casualty.

Dont' rinse your mouth out on the first day. On the second day you can rise your mouth out with corsodyl. Rinse gently, as you don't want to open it up.

Try not to talk and keep the ice pack on for at least 15 mins every two hours. Eat only cold food that has been pureed.

It will take about two days for the bleeding to stop and you might still taste blood for a few more.

Continue to put the cotton in the socket where the tooth was with pressure (bite down). It will bleed for a while after they are pulled, even the next day. It is the amount of blood you need to worry about. So just keep the pressure on it to get it to stop.

You really cant get anything stronger for pain OTC. You might try rinsing and gargling with warm salt water.

Hope you feel better soon.

The strongest OTC pain killer is naproxen. Normally, for wisdom teeth removal Vicodin is prescribed. Tylenol is OTC. It will be sore for several days after the surgery.
