Hehe. I believe I sort of answered this......^_^ do you mind if I copy paste and elaborate?
I don't know. It is not for me to understand, but you sure do have something to ponder and wonder about... Seriously, how boring would existence be if we understood everything? I think He has a plan for the billions of things in the universe, some of which is absolutely nothing but giving me something to think about.......I like to think that if it was created, the complexity is a trademark of the creator. He said himself that we shouldn't be able to understand it completely, and we don't. I mean. would he be worth his salt as a God if we could comprehend and figure out how He works? Nah.
As humans, we can only comprehend what we have to relate to. Our idea of a "plan" is a series of steps that have one ultimate outcome. But what if His idea of a plan is more like a story being told, a story with many parts, and many outcomes? I mean, talk about building your kingdom....what is the meaning of life? We have all this stuff, all this laid out with us, and yet, we can't collectively get an idea of what we are working toward....what if we are not advanced enough to see the ultimate result of our work?
On that note, a truly omnipotent God would know the result of his labor. but we wouldn't, because we are not omnipotent. And why would you want to be omnipotent? Would stars and galaxies inspire the same wonder in you if you knew everything there was to know about them?
EDIT:
*sigh* thumbs down. And I thought i was giving a decent thought out answer. At least I didn't leave it at "Don't question God" or "There is no God, and I'm sucking up for the BA!" Oh well.

Perhaps to show how far the laws of physics apply across the universe. Perhaps to show that no matter how much man learns about his universe he can never achieve full knowledge about it. To show how true the statement in Job 9: 9-10 is " 9Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south. 10Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
God is the greatest mystery of all. More so than this physical universe. If that is the case it is no wonder God wants us to accept him by faith.

Good question. Most cannot even be seen, so god cannot have planted them there for aesthetic purposes
A similar thing can be said to followers of astrological charts: For instance, some of the stars used in astrological readings no longer exist. Because they are so far away and light takes time to travel, it is only the light that we are seeing - the stars have long since expired. The stars no longer affect us - it is only their reflections... Would this not make the reading inaccurate?

galaxies 13 billion light years away probably have life forms on them. There is no way that people on planet Earth are the only form of life in the entire universe.

The plan is for the galaxies to make us go "oooohhh!!!" (open-mouthed in awe)
Just kidding, although of course they do render us speechless, especially those of us who know a bit about galaxies (getting into physics only increases one's level of curiosity, and it forever changes one's view of the world-- weltenschaung i think it's called).

better questions,
do you believe it serves a purpose for other people other than for you?
how do you spend your money? for yourself alone or do you set apart a certain percentage for others?
I am not closed to the idea of other worlds where life can exist,
Yeshua said, I go tend to my sheep elsewhere, the mormons believe he went to north america.
There may be life in those places. Just because it doesn't serve you doesn't mean it is useless.
Stars can help spark romance between two lovers.
They can also keep scientists employed... Ever thought of that?
If you weren't thinking about yourself, you might have thought that it serves to keep some people fed.
anyway, you will need to switch your mindset from focusing on yourself alone and think of how things can work for other people.
one mans trash is another mans treasure.. how simple yet you never realized it...
