I'm wanting to purchase a good 7.62x51 automatic rifle and Im wondering if I should get a M14, G3 or CETME, AR10, ect. List which would be best for customizing, sniping/target, hunting, assault, ect and which has the best handling and least kick. And who's the best manufactorers for each. Please back up your opinions with facts or experiences. Thanks.

For reliability, simplicity, and accuracy you can't beat the M-14 / M1-A system. The M-21 variant is the best semi-auto target/sniper rifle ever fielded. Plus, they have traditional GI-Joe good looks, not all evil, exotic bad-a**.

If your looking for very accurate target shooting(sub MOA) i would not go with the military style your looking at. I own at 308savage arms with a heavy barrel(recessed crown dual pillar bedding and accutrigger etc...)this gun was made to be a nail driver. The trigger can be set from 1 1/2lbs - 6lbs of pull, which has been the greatest help for me, and right out of the box i was shooting sub MOA. This is a bolt action gun(which if you ever watch sharp shooting, they all use bolt action) The only thing i don't like about the gun is the stock, but you can easly replace that with anything you like. The 308 is always at the top for its great ballistics and the kick isn't as bad as you would think, because of the heavy barrel. These guns already come with custom bolts that will not change with any other same gun! Its cheeper than a remmington 700 and the 700 doesn't even have all of those features....by far the best choice for the price, that i have ever made

The AR platform is a really good system for all of the points you made. There are many brands and about fifty thousand web sites with any part you could want. If hunting is what the gun is going to be used for than get the AR10 with a good quality scope, 24" barrel, free floating front hand guard, bi pod and match grade trigger. But you can customize it for what ever purpose the gun will be used for the most. That's the main reason why i suggest the AR10 for the ease of customizing it.

M1a1 (m14) maximum precise besides as maximum solid. you could drop it interior the dirt %. it up and it won't omit a beat. Mine shoots MOA at 100yrds. HK ninety one is precise, only approximately as lots by using fact the m14 yet its a heavy beast of a gun. Very solid. Trashes the brass- so no reload. I even have shot some FN fal .308 and the accuracy isn't great, greater valuable than an AK yet nonetheless no longer what I had was hoping. it somewhat is lighter than the HK91 in spite of the undeniable fact that it feels long and unwieldy with that barrel unbelievable way accessible. Its an prolonged gun.

The M14 is great, plus parts and customizing accessories are plentiful. The FN FAL rifle is very good also. What sucks is the price of .308 ammo right now. Your looking at 50-75 cent per rd. depending on the type you buy. That makes practicing real expensive.

Personally I would go with a AR-10 for all the uses listed. Out of all if them the AR-10 would be the most customizable. For manufacturers, Rock River Arms, Bushmaster, or Armalite are all good manufacturers.

I, personally, would go with something that isn't as military styled as what you mentioned. I would go with a Remington 750 or a Browning BAR ShortTrac. Don't know how easy either are to customize, or how good they are, but I have only ever heard good stuff about both.

You are not going to get any M-14, because it is a select fire auto weapon. You can get the semi auto Springfield Armory M1A.
