Hell is based on nightmares - nightmares aren't based on Hell.

At first I thought this is a good question to answer with a joke . But I AM an experienced Dream Interpeter .
The blackness means you are aware that you don't have answers you need / seek .
The lack of pain means that you believe that hell is absence of truth /knowing . . The figure hovering around the room represents someone or something with answers . The fact that you are aware that you didn't ask the Lord for help shows that your lack of answers revolves around your religion .
I believe that this dream may have been sparked by your reading Atheistic reasons / proofs for their lack of belief in God ( and possibly Creationism ) . You desire proof and answeres but Chritianity is based on faith . You just have to believe that the religious teachings / feelings are correct because there is no scientific proof of any religion . This is a delema for someone like you and being put into this "hell" is being in darkness which causes you to "freak out" .
You have two choices . One , Stop and examine your beliefs and the determinations of Science and even other religions . Or two . Re-Commit yourself to believing in your religion because it feels right and avoid reading things that may make you question your beliefs .

I could have been almost anything. A Satanic attack to try to make you doubt you Salvation, or even indigestion.
What you should do is pray and press in closer to the Lord, spend more time in the Bible, in Worship, and in prayer.
I had a bad dream last night too, I feel through some ice and was under water and couldn't find the opening in the ice and was stuck. It was just a dream, so I don't worry too much about it now.

It's the devil, trying to get you into fear. I had this happen to me many times when I first got saved. Most of the time it wasnt in a dream, it was the actual presence of evil. I told it to go in the name of Jesus. When it wouldn't go that easily I would start quoting scripture, and try to laugh at it, telling it I know that God loves me with an everlasting love, and that I have power over all the power of the enemy. I'd just keep quoting God's word and eventually it would leave. The devil hates you when you love God with all your heart, but if you stand on the truth he can't do a thing to do. Read your bible, learn about the power you have over the devil! If you are truely a child of God you can beat it, and him, every time! He wants you to stop beleiving, that is his mission, so speak the word of God, eventually he'll stop doing that, but he will never stop trying to invade your life. Learn scripture, know what God tells you to do to defeat the father of lies!! God Bless you.

It must have been the day for strange dreams... I myself had a very strange one. I would not allow it to bother you. As long as you know you are doing your best at being the best you can be giving all the honor and glory to God. With a pure and loving heart... It was probably just that a bad dream... God bless****

My best advice is to ask God this question. I can offer you my interpretations but only he can reveal the truth.
The first thing that came to mind when I read your details was the book 23 Minutes in Hell (Bill Wiese). I haven't read most of it, but I recall enough from a sample chapter and some reviews I read to know that he thinks his experience was a divine revelation to motivate him to spread the word that hell is NOT the place you want to go.
I also thought that your description sounded like one of the possibilities for the nature of hell I've considered (and even mentioned in answers on here)...eternal darkness and no knowledge of the existence of God...total separation from him.
Power of suggestion is a possibility...if you've been thinking about hell, your subconscious mind could certainly conjure up an image in a dream, especialy if you've been under other stress. Watch any horror movies lately?
Could also be a manifestation of your greatest fear...being alone in the darkness...but that could also be consistent with divine revelation. It is possible that hell could manifest itself (initially at least) differently for different people based on their greatest fear...for some, it might be wandering helpless in the dark with no senses to perceive anything...for others it might be fire and burning pain...for others it could be being buried alive (their soul never gets to leave the coffin).
Perhaps that image you saw was a demon coming to get you for round two...when you get to become the plaything of demons and fallen angels...beings that live for the opportunity to strike out at God. God cast out the fallen angels, hell is designed for them and they can't enter God's kingdom. What better way to strike out at God than to deceive his children into choosing to live with them after their "childhood" on earth is through. ...and what would they do to you once they had you...the child of their worst enemy...in their home?

I think most have had bad dreams in their past and present.
You say you are a devout Christian, perhaps God is showing you this to testify to someone you know about Christ. Maybe this person is headed for Hell and you need to intervene with a message of hope and inspiration.
Ask God for wisdom.

There is a book called "23 minutes in hell"
It is about a man who went to sleep one night in his own bed and woke up in hell. It is his account of what he experienced. I do not know if his experience was real, however, I do think that it is possible. God will pour out His knowledge to those He deems worthy. Who knows why He chooses us for the different things we go through...but I do know that they are for a purpose. Perhaps this knowledge will benefit you in the future and help to shape who you are in Christ. It could also be for someone you witness to in your future. Ask God to help you understand it. This is the only sure way of finding out, if He allows it.

Your comments are strange. You say that you didn't stop to ask the Lord for help. You were tested and failed.
If I were you I would think about that . . . . a lot!
Psalm 139:8
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Oh Rudy, Here we go! Stick and stones will only attack a fruitful tree...If you were not doing the will of God these demons would not have come to you. This is a warning not for you to change your beliefs but for you to concentrate on God day and night. God is your weapon your defense your shield and in the time of adversity you didn't call him. Get in your word, stay in your word fast and pray for a true revelation from God and it will be reveled to you. There is a demon close to you who is trying to take you to hell with him.....God is your Protector he will never leave or forsake you!

Don't you think that it's a sign from God!!! Maybe you're doing things you're not supposed to be doing and if you dont stop then hell is where you're headed unless you change it. (I'm not tryna scare you but its true) Oh! by the way you probably didn't feel any pain because you're still not there and God is giving you another chance. =)
