I find it accetable to say no to God/Religion, it's your own will. However, is there ANYTHING wrong with the teachings of morality and ethics? Many religions teach quite productive and meaningful ways ofliving life, contrary to the ol'American capitalism consumer mentallity, smoking, drinking, drugs, promiscuous sex, and that stuff.

I mean, if you REALLY think that teaching people to be nice and smile and love is bad, and that smoking/drinking/promiscuous sex is good, then,

honestly,

you're a self-pleasuring, life's too short and ya die, Ahole, who's only leading to the downward spiral of humanity.

Yeah, sounds harsh but I mean, how's getting high, having sex, and not caring about anything a GOOD thing for humanity OR yourself? There are many of u that do this.

See, I don't have a problem with unbelievers, at all, but, for the love of god,

why do people not care anymore about morals, ethics, behavior, etc?

Personally, I think it's b/c some ppl are evil inside.

They like those things, and they will get angry and lash out at someone like me because they think we're trying to control them and stop their fun.

That's why people hate religions and God, they don't want to feel controlled because they LOVE "sinning."

They love drinking, drugs, sex, smoking, lying, cheating, competing, money, shopping, buying things, etc etc etc

SO much, and they find such pleasure in this,

that the idea of being a barney the dinosaur good person disguists them.

Well guess what fellow atheist?

That's called...a scumbag.

Hell I like to have a good time too but,

why do people try so hard to stand up for what is WRONG?

lol.

I guess it's like the die hard smokers, they'll preach how smoking isn't bad for you to the grave.

Same with the sinners.

For shame people!

There's nothing wrong with ethics and morals, they're in fact a necessary part of society -- if they're derived from a free compact among people. This is the enlightenment view of philosophers like Locke and Kant that directly led to the principles of American democracy and hence to most of the western world.

The problem comes when some person claims to have revealed knowledge from a higher authority proscribing the moral rules. There's no appeal to reason, and it inevitably will turn to quibbling over interpretation or authority, and you've lost the compact.

Also, you're making a supposition as to sin. If I do not believe that any higher authority has proscribed an action, it is therefore not sinful. Sin, in fact, is a meaningless concept. Denoting unethical behaviour, however, does not require everyone to agree on whose revelation, interpretation, or authority is correct, and is a much more useful idea.

You are making a false assumption that without religion there are no morals or ethics. Morals and ethics are standards set upon by society and have been a part of civilized humans since long before organized religions existed.

Feel better, now that you've unloaded your self-righteousness?

Morality and ethics are fine, but I don't need help from you defining mine.

being religious doesn't make you moral. There are plenty of religious and non-religious people out there who are equally immoral.
