I heard that a peruvian and an argentinian just got hired in my university, and they are so well paid. They say that they are paid even more than the president's assistant!

It depends on where you live and what field. At my mom's bank the spanish speaking tellers start out at 2 dollars an hour more. At my job I translate constantly but get paid exactly the same as everyone else.

yes it depends in what field though. Any type of business that markets to latinos/spaniards will want to hire a bilingual person over a person who doesnt speak spanish. For example a customer service rep gets paid here $11 p/hrwith mediacom (a cable/tv co.) A bilingual rep gets paid $14 p/hr not only b/c they're bilingual but b/c they'll handle more calls.

It is also helpful for everyday life, especially if you live in an area where a latino population exists.

I don't necessarily think so and that's because there are so many people who speak both English and Spanish that they're pretty much a dime-a-dozen. However, that might be different for someone who does speak another language where a translator is so desperately needed and there aren't that many people who can speak it and English. Some examples I can think of are Arabic, Chinese, and other languages that are spoken in the Middle East and parts of Asia.

Well, basically, the more languages you know, the more money you could make. People prefer people who can get more customers. What better way than being able to speak their language?
The majority of the world is made up of people from all over the world. Most were immigrants who probably had very little english education, therefore, they only know how to speak their hometown language. If you know what they speak, you can make their business... (yes i know it sounds mean, but its true!)
