People might think that signs should only be in English, since that is basically the language of the United States. Anyone driving in the U.S. has to have a license valid in the country and that usually presupposes that they speak English. If not, in what language should the signs be, in addition to English? Obviously, you are thinking of Spanish but why not also French, German and, most important of all as time goes on, Mandarin Chinese.
Go to Puerto Rico and you'll find more signs only in Spanish and not in English but that's because most of the residents are Hispanic. English is as international a language as you can find ( although, actually, more people speak Chinese but they don't travel as much ).

Let's see... When the first wave of colonists came they wrote, and spoke in English. When America was formed, they wrote, and spoke in English. When the Forefathers wrote the Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc... That too was in English. Also added to those pieces of Historical papers were the words written, and I paraphrase. "No other language shall be used to accommodate those who do not speak, read, write or understand English."
So why then are they being accommodated with bilingual paperwork, forms, and signs!! That too is against what the Forefathers believed.

It's not the inconvenience. It's the fear that the country is no longer a, I use this loosely, "isolated" country. They're scared of the fact that so many foreigners are in our country that they might take over certain aspect of everyday life. (ie comm.)
The difference with india is that there has been multiple languages in that country for the longest time, and we're still young at 200 years. Primarily, there is one main language, so the popularity of spanish is scaring them.
don't blame me, I'm bilingual.

dont seem why they seem to whine about bilingual signs when this is a country of immigrants. so we should really be seeing even more bilingual signs than there is now. people seem to think that english should be the only spoken language here, when christopher columbus discovered the america and introduced spanish, besides that its not only latin america so what did you expect? for there not to be an upward movement of immigration and spanish speakers? come on now

We're not whiners dear. I was going to agree with your statement until you made the presumption that all Americans whine. about 99% of americans speak english and would like to have our country stay that way there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This is the UNITED States of America where one language has been the norm since its becoming a nation. To have multiple languages being used would too much resemble the UN UNITED countries of Europe where you can travel 500 miles and have to endure 3 different native languages.

Because this country is founded on English and English should be spoken, written etc. One language unites a country, several divide it.

I don't have a problem at all and can see the value, but it does seem to cater to illegals...If there weren't tens of millions of illegals here, it would mean something entirely different to see a bilingual sign.

Because this is America! We are an English based and speaking country. We don't need to cater to *** holes who want to move here from other countries and are just too damn Lazy, Poor, Stupid or what ever to learn English! I am sick of their excuses to. America, love it or leave it! If you don't want to speak English, you don't love it, so leave! They can't get legal citizenship here if they can't speak English. They also don't want us going to their country and not learning their language. How hypocritical.
If you are here and don't want to learn English, I have One word for you that I will say in a few different languages: Adios; tschus; wiedersehen; sionara; ta ta; Good Bye! And get the hell out of my fuc*ing country! Quit trying to Bring all your shitty cultures and languages, etc. over here! You don't want us contaminating your country with our American cultures and stuff. So shape up or ship out!
