I have a G4 Mac, OS X and I'm attempting to download Windows Media Player. I downloaded it but when I went to click on it on my desk top it said "There is no default application specified to open the application "Windows Media-1.sitz". The thing is, that usually means you can't open it because I've never been successful choosing an application to open another application.

What do I do? How do I download it? Anyone know?

Thank you!

I don't know if you've noticed or are literate in the subject, but if you google "Windows Media player for MAC" and yes, Windows Media player pops up.

You're incorrect.

The error message you're getting just means that the container Windows Media Player came in is in a format that your Mac doesn't recognize. (Actually, neither do I, offhand — I've seen .sit and .sitx archives, so I assume it's some kind of StuffIt file, but whatever.)

To the above poster who said Windows Media Player is only for Windows...you're half-right, half-wrong. Windows Media Player actually used to be available for Mac as well, but Microsoft has stopped supporting it.

Anyway, I've provided a link below to a plugin which will make QuickTime Player able to play most Windows Media files. Microsoft is making it available for download, although it's made by a different software company.

I also recommend Perian, another plugin for QuickTime which is also free, and adds support for all kinds of other audio and video formats.
